What type of Metal and Magic would the Master Sword be made out of

Hi

Just the other day I was wondering what type of Metal and Magic would the Master Sword be made out of (including the Handle)

So if you've got any theories please send them in

I rekon the outside could be made of stell but the concrete inside of the sword. The handle could be blue marble. The magic could been forged into the sword by all the sages which is the powerful magic in the universe

Seriously, I think the blade could be made of some ancient holy material. Maybe it´s something that the gods created specifically for the sword. Or maybe it´s just a regural steel sword and the evil-repelling power comes from some kind of a blessing that was cast on the sword ages ago.

Concrete? Marble? How should Link be able to wield a sword made of concrete? first of all, it would be too heavy, second, concrete isn't a good material to use in a sword. *rolls eyes* I hope that was a joke.

And for that matter, I've always considered the Master Sword to be made of steel and blessed with magic to repel evil. *thinks* Actually, I haven't really thought about it at all.

I think that the master sword is made out of a spiritual metal that is unbreakable, and it was given it's evil-repelling powers from the sages and gods.

the master sword could be made of adamantium metal so that its indestructable and wont wear. Its probably blessed by the goddesses and the sages.

Well I'm glad to see another X-men fan (FYI: Wolverine has adamantium laced bones), but I don't think so. In the comic world, adamantium is indestructable, however Link has gone blade to blade with regular enemies and his sword never cut throught theirs. That's why I have to agree with Lioness.

It can't be adamantium anyway, mainly because It was reforged a couple times in A Link to the Past, and you can't reprocess/reform pure adamantium once it has solidified in its pure state.

I think that steel would probably be the most likely choice, but the magic part could be debatable. I myself have a unified magic/energy theory that I follow through all Fantasy games/experiences. The way I see it is that there are two basic forms of energy, Light and Dark. The two are mixed with elemental essences to create elemental magics and powers. The Medallions in the Zelda Games are the embodiments of these Essences. I believe that the Master Sword is free of Elemental Essence, and is imbued with pure Light Energy that repels the Dark Energy that is so prevalent in evil beings.

... It's silver.. The master sword once was the only weapon that could "destroy" Ganon, the only weapon capable of peircing his hard leather skin of evil.. light arrows.. nah those toys just stun him... Also, the silver arrows, the other weapon capable of peircing ganon's evil ridden flesh are well, made of silver... both weapons can hurt Ganon, both are shiny.. so I assume that they are both made of silver.... Perhaps the metal Silver in the Zelda world has its own special magical properties.. like... the power to repel evil...

Well silver would be kind of heavy, wouldn't it? I think that the master sword is made of steel and then enchanted/blassed by the gods. I honestly can't say what the handle is made out of.

Not only would silver be really heavy, but the blade would dull very quickly...not to mention become tarnished, and we can't have that

But as for its power, we learn from Wind Waker that it's dependent on the prayers of Sages for its evil-banishing properties to work right.

Ya know whats scary... I was just finished watching X2 when I read this...

I think that the sword is made of a mix of two metals ... One very lightweight and one very sturdy... its probably like any high class sword in the medieval time, with some silver mixed in ...

just a question, why does it matter... I think some things are just meant to be left unexplained and some others need to be explored completely. The master sword in my opinion is in the first category.

Well said, TMAS29. But the reason is...we get bored. Some/most subjects have been questioned and analized over and over again that it becomes stale to analize it again. Analyzing unexplained things just passes the time (no matter how stupid (no offence) the topic of the thread is), until the next Zelda game is revieled where we can play, analyze (some more), and discuss the topics of the newest recruit of the Zelda timeline. To put it shortly, it's all just for fun.

The Master Sword is specifically designed to be able to overcome even the power of the Goddesses (Triforce). I doubt they'd bless something like that. Maybe indirectly, through the Sages.

Not to say it is adamantium (ridiculous idea, really), but that would have farmore to do with how sharp the blade is then whether it's adamantium or not. And adamantium is not extraordinarily sharp by default or anything.

No. The Master Sword has never been capable of destroying Ganon. In the history of the Zelda series, only the Silver Arrows have been capable of that, and even those did a botched job, since he could be resurrected afterwards.


In the end, I think this is an incredibly foolish thing to discuss. Not only is it pointless, but demystifying the world of Zelda by over-examining things can only lead to... bad... things.

My point exacly... Yes its fun to analyse and speak of things in the past games.But sometimes peoples tend to go overboard. If it was something that was to build our knowlege... yes sure let her rip. But knowing of what metal the sword is made of will not improve our understanding of the Zelda world. Why and by whom it was forged is another story, that could actually lead to a very deep discussion in the range of "Did they see ganon coming" and "what pushed them to do so" those things are well worth discussing. Also because we have many clues and loops to support our arguments, the metallurgical (i think theres 2 L's) structure of the Master sword isnt hinted anywheres, and the peoples that say its silver... well. no. Way too heavy, so there no arguments.

The Hylians used fine steel to forge the massive blade of the Master Sword, and they adorned its hilt with gold and rare jewels. The legendary weapon strengthened by magic and fire, and had the power to repulse evil.

I could probably find some more about the Master Sword, but I think that this information is good enough.

Uh-huh. I've read through that guide several times, and I don't remember anything like that. Give me a page number and an exact quote, and I'll verify it.
