Re: What type of Metal and Magic would the Master Sword be made out of

I would like to remind everyone that Nintendo doesn't think of all this stuff. (Seemingly)

In Majoras Mask Link got a sword that was as long as himself and part-gold.
And this sword was longer than the master sword and wielded by young link.

Gold is DENSER than silver. So anyone saying the master would be too heavy with silver in it can go hide in a box.

'cos 'tendo don't care!

Re: What type of Metal and Magic would the Master Sword be made out of

It seems as if the Master Sword is formed out of steel though according to The Legend of Zelda: A link to the Past Japanese Instruction Manual and the Player's Guide of 1992, but it seems as if it the magic, where it be the Oracle explained in the Japanese Manual may have strengthened its durability. Of course like Sigve said, Nintendo doesn't think of every single little detail, and it wouldn't concern them what the metal is made of. However let's look at a comparison between adamantium and the Master Sword for a bit.

Adamantium is created through the mixing of certain chemical resins whose composition is a United States government secret. For eight minutes after the resins are mixed, the Adamantium can be molded into a particular shape as long as it is kept at a temperature of 1,500 degrees Fahrenheit. After this brief period the process of creating Adamantium is completed. The extremely stable molecular structure of the Adamantium prevents it from being molded further, even if the temperature remains high enough to keep it in liquefied form. Only a device celled a Molecular Rearranger can alter the form of hardened Adamantium.

Now after I had found the information about adamantium I had realized that it was 1,500 degrees Fahrenheit that is needed in order to mold the metal which is used in Wolverine's skeleton and claws, instead of 1,600 degrees. So what does all of this information about Marvel Comics prove, well not much, but the discussion of tempering the Master Sword was discussed in the Player's Guide of A link to the Past. On page 42 it clearly states: To make them (swords) harder, the Blacksmith slowly heated swords over his forge until they were red hot, around 1,600 degrees Fahrenheit, then cooled them quickly by plunging them into cool water. The process called tempering, made the metal much stronger. So it seems as if the Master Sword is a pretty durable alloy whatever it is made out of.

Also Sigve the gold dust that was made to forge the Razor's Sword into the Gilded Sword may not have been made out of gold, but just a compound that looks like gold, so were not really sure what it is actually made of. Also even if it was gold, Link is not a human, he is a hylian, he can take shots from boulders, fall off mountainous terrain, and bottomless pits (which kill an even invincible Mario) and takes this all with very little damage. So not only is Link much more durable than a human being but I would speculate that he is somewhat stronger than a human as well.

You're right about that. Link (and possibly all hylians) seems to be "Superpowered". Concidering how easily he wields any blade.

Though I still think the Gilded sword was part-golden.

Firstly, why would Gorons(who naturally should be miners) give out fake gold in one of their favorite contests and CALL it "Gold dust".

Thats not too likely. Then there's the smithy's reaction when he sees it. I think he said "My, this is some high-quality gold dust you got there!" Or something along those lines..

Re: What type of Metal and Magic would the Master Sword be made out of

Gold in various RPGs is used to make weapons and armor, often superior in strength to bronze or silver, despite gold's high malleability (in reality, pure gold can be dented with a fingernail). This leaves me to believe that whenever in a fantasy type world, that things are probably different than in the real world. Of course I could be wrong, but I tend to see gold dust as a more magical property than something that is actual gold in context.

Another metal often used in RPGs is Mithril, a light, silvery metal that is as strong as steel, but very light and easy to work. While mithril has properties similar to those of titanium or aluminium alloy, the fact that it was mined in native form in Moria suggests it has no direct real-world analogue. It is used for making superb chain-mail armour and other means of protection. An alternate spelling, "Mythril", appears in the video game series Final Fantasy with basically has the same properties as Mithril.

Sorry for getting off topic a bit, but I think you get what I am saying.

I believe that it is made of steel, forged by Hyruleīs greatest balcksmiths (yes I know too much imagination). Itīs power comes from the sages, alltough Iīm not so sure if itīs comes directly from the sages like in Oot or from the gods to which the sages pray to, like in WW.

I know I shoudnīt bring this old thread back to life, I couldnīt hold myself.

I think Link's sword would be made out of steel, the handle is a metel died blu or blue marble or saphire even. And it has light powers.

Re: What type of Metal and Magic would the Master Sword be made out of

Well, in ALttp, someone says that the original people of Hyrule, the Hylia, had some special items, one of which was the Master Sword. Maybe the Master Sword is made of some kind of metal that was completely used up before the time of the Legend of Zelda series. As for the holy power, I think the Goddesses who formed the Triforce blessed the Master Sword to drive off any evil that threatened Hyrule.
