Re: Darkest Zelda

I have to agree. Majora's Mask was very gloomy. The story between Anju and Kafei, the threat of the Moon crashing down and destroying the entire earth, the dedication of some of the people (Muto, the Mailman, etc.). The entire time it just seemed kind of gloomy, which made it that much better, in my opinion.

Re: Darkest Zelda

Well, Majora's Mask. Watching the moon come slowly down in a fiery apocalypse, spending days saving a village, just to see when you go back in time that it is still about to freeze to death. The little girl's father in the Music House, Zora singer lady getting her children (eggs) kidnapped, Kafie and Anju's entire sub-plot, Skull Kid being posessed by a demon mask, just because he wants his friends to come back, and finally Link's face when you put on the Zora mask (DEMON!!!!)

Re: Darkest Zelda

Well I didnt find MM to be the darkest. You really didnt get the feeling of terror and cause until the last hours of the third day. I really dont think that any Zelda game is actually dark just filled with mystery. But If I would have to decide what game would be the darkest i thought the ALTTP just for the fact that you actually got to see the effects of Ganons wish in the dark world but other than that I would have to say the others arent to dark.

Re: Darkest Zelda

I do not consider many Zelda games to be "dark"

Lttp was kinda dark since (as Link2005 pointed out) Ganon got his wish and made the Golden land the Dark world.

MM was only dark on the last day, what with Skull Kid, Anju and Kafei, etc etc.

OOT I found dark with Ganons castle and the Market full of Redeads.

Re: Darkest Zelda

IMO, I think MM was the darkest, for the reasons that everyone else has stated above. A menacing moon above the town, getting lower and lower with each passing day...Majora causing atrocities across Termina...the romance between Kafei and Anju....little Pamela's father turning into a Gibdo...I could go on, but I'll stop ranting now. ^^; However, the Zelda '05 looks to be darker, and I kind of hope it is, since WW wasn't dark at all.

I agree with all that stuff about MM, and IMO it was probably the darkest game in the series. But the dark world in aLttP was pretty dark also, with Ganon fufilling his wishes and all. Also, in OoT when you first become an adult and step into Hyrule market to find redeads in place of the townsfolk and Ganon's castle looming ahead...

Re: Darkest Zelda

This picture should tell you which game I think is the darkest.
In most games, the villain is Ganon(dorf) who wants POWER POWER POWER!!! and he usually doesn't care what it takes to achieve that.
In Majora's Mask, the villain was Majora, a demon that wanted not power, but death and destruction, even if it destroys itself in the process. In MM, you are watching how the people spend the last three days of their lives. Some people flee as far as they can from the moon, others wait in town for their death, the guards who are forced to look on from their posts and do nothing watch oblivious chilren play as they stand with their hands over their hearts, Mutoh stands a few yards away from where the moon will fall in a final act of despair and defiance at the same time, and so on. Before the final battle, just as you think you've won, the moon comes to life, opening its mouth to devour the world. When you finally save Termina, the screen goes white instead of black, saying "Dawn of a New Day" which is a moment of pure optimism in direct contrast to all the darkness and gloom of the previous days.

Re: Darkest Zelda

Though MM was a dark game, i dont think it was the darkest. Yeah sure, the moon is gonna fall in 3 days, these people are gonna die...sad, depressing, but in my opinion it wasnt dark. The game itself didnt really have that much atmosphere, I think this is because the lack of ingenuity in the Overworld. MM just seemed to crazy and zany to be dark. OoT was a pretty dark game when link was an adult. After sleeping for seven years and finding the castle market-place in shambles, well thats pretty dark. Many of the people during the adult link time, either were dead or left. The world in itself was thrown into chaos, Ganondorf had won. Even throughout the rest of the worl we see Ganondorf's evil, Lake hylia is dried up, Darunia is gone, The Zora's Domain was completly covered in Ice. Even the Kokiri forest was in turmoil, monsters have taken over the woods and the Kokiri chldren hide in there houses because they are scared out of their minds. oh and also the Great deku tree is dead. yeah thats pretty dark.

Re: Darkest Zelda

I agree with most of you. Majora's Mask was indeed the darkest Zelda game.
The moon crashing down and the relationship between Anju and Kafei made it Darker...

Re: Darkest Zelda

MM was difinately the darkest, with the darkest villain. mm seemed to be more evil than the others, the others were valiant quests of heroism, while mm was more of a, stop the moon or you and everyone you know will die.

Re: Darkest Zelda

Majora's Mask was the "darkest" Zelda game, obviously due to the somewhat more realistic graphical style (more so than Ocarina of Time), as well as the whole "world going to end" theme. This was made especially apparent because the characters in the game actually have somewhat of an emotional connection with you due to the massive amount of sidequests and you getting to know them through their daily routines. To see all these living, breathing things end is by far worse than seeing a bunch of faceless pixels disappear.

Of course, The Wind Waker had the most mature plot of any Zelda game so far. The destruction of Hyrule is a big shock, and while the game may not have the same NPC interaction as Majora's Mask, the world still seemed to have the greatest sense of palpability thus far. Everything felt real due to the immersive atmosphere.

Re: Darkest Zelda

I would have to agree with almost every one... MM is the darkest (I hope the new on the GC will be even darker) becuz if you were late to anything that happens you see the effect and feel it because you lost your chance of accomplishing a mission.

The music is gloomy too and almost all the caracters are sad...It feels like judgement day has arrived...kinda freeky

But it's one of my favourites

Re: Darkest Zelda

Like everyone else, I gotta say that MM wins the dark and gloomy award. You start out with the game pretty much telling you that your friendless. Then your horse gets taken, and you get turned into a deku scrub, just to find out that you're being stalked be by a salesman.
But the peoples reactions over the three days is what gets me. I can't remember exactly when, but I felt really sorry for Romani and Cremia sometime on the third day.

Re: Darkest Zelda

I agree with the majority-MM was the darkest, for the reasons described above.
Shadowy, atmospheric, dark, gloomy-I feel like 'what can I do to save the whole world?'

I hated the guards on the final day, the way they acted with a sense of duty even though they thoguht they were going to die. It went through me. >_<

Re: Darkest Zelda

I'd have to agree with everyoen else, regarding MM..

It was all pure genius! At first it seemed like a happy bunch of people, but when you take a few steps into their world, you see that its completely different..

Desperacy, despair, death..

And some situations are just too bad..

The gorons for eg. Their great Hero, and guide Darmani is dead, Their leader is gone., theyre starving, freezing and they're young are crying..

Pure hell.
