who is ROC ????

i've played some zelda games and i'm wondering who is ROC???
and wat's so special about him that one of his feathers makes you light as a feather? is he that guy from WW???

There are birds in WW (I don't know if they are in any others) that have 'Roc' in their names...

The Roc was a giant, mythological bird. The biride featured in Sinbad, for instance, where it carried the poor sailor away when he tried to steal the egg...or something like that anyways. I guess they got the name from that.

I thought it was a Greek mythological creeature.

Or is Sinbad Greek?

i think sinbad is english...and i always thought he was that bossin OoA in the dungeon you get Roc's Feaher in. But who knows

My dictionary had the following about roc:

roc: A legendary bird of prey of enormous size and strength. [Arabic rukhkh, from Persian rukh.]

And Zelda games had been using Roc's feather long before Sinbad came out. LA had the feather, the Oracles had the feather and a cape, and TWW had the Helmaroc King.

Nonono, not the game sinbad! XD the old legend about Sinbad...from Arabian Nights...or whatever it's called in English...you know, about Zerenade, who had to tell stories for the Sultan in order to avoid getting killed.

Yeah, the roc is an ancient legend. The Helmaroc King is a helmet-wearing roc. There's more things in Zelda that reffer to ancient legends, though I'm drawing a blank right now...

I'm surprised at how many people haven't read The Arabian Nights - well, not that I've actually read all of them, but the main ones like Sinbad, Aladdin, etc. I'd have thought would be well known.
As for more legends that Zelda draws on, the Pegasus boots come to mind...

before this i never knew Roc was a legend in the real world! i thought it was sumthing Nintendo made up.
