Zelda Game & Watch game

The classic Zelda Game & watch game is a game I have never seen a post about here. I am thinking about buying myself this game, as a trophy in my bookshelf. So, how many of you have this game, or played it? Whatsīs itīs like? Is it beat-able or does it go on and on like the donkey kong one? Does it have a story? What are the basic game features? Can it be placed in the timeline theories or is it the same story as Loz 1. When was it released? Right after Zelda 1 or what?

Many questions.. feel free to answer any you like...

Re: Zelda Game & Watch game

If this is *technically* a Zelda game, then it should be under the section of its system... what system is it on? NES? If it is an NES game, it should be under the NES/SNES section.
But no, I have not played it, and I seriously doubt it can have any connection to the timeine at all, as it is not a full fledged adventure.

Game & Watch was Nintendo's first handheld device, before the Game Boy. It used brand-new LCD technology for the screen and ran on batteries. There were no cartridges, though. Rather, you would but different Game & Watch systems, each preloaded with one game. There were around twenty in total, I believe.

As far as I can tell with the Zelda Game & Watch, there is no real significant storyline - in fact, the Zelda Game & Watch may even be a port of the original Legend of Zelda. However, I can't find enough information to confirm (or deny) that statement. It's also treated just as the CD-i games are, in relation to the timeline.

It's got it's own storyline, it's not just a port of the original LoZ - if any thing, gameplay wise it's (slightly) more similar to AoL as it has a side view. I can't remember teh specifics, but (and this is from memory) the plot is that there are 8 Dragons who can't live at peace with Hyrule, so they steal the Triforce and break it into Eight parts, as well as kidnapping Link's 'sweatheart' Zelda (I'm pretty sure the manul refered to Zelda as being Link's sweatheart). Link then tracks them to their 8 underground palaces.

It's quite a fun little game.. I used to have a copy, but have no idea what happened to it.. although it's an unlockable secret in Game and Watch Gallery 4 for the GBA.

Personally, I like to consider it canon.. I know it's not really counted, but it's a fun game, it's storyline can be slotted in without impacting on the timeline, and it IS a Nintendo made product

Re: Zelda Game & Watch game

Yeah since it is an official Nintendo release I donīt think it should be treated like the CD-I games. So it did have a real ending then?

Btw.. I found a summary of the story:

Game Story:
The havoc caused by eight fierce dragons is increasing day by day. These dragons have refused to live in peace with man and are fighting against him to rule the world. Now that your sweetheart Princess Zelda has been kidnapped by the evil dragons, you have resolved to destroy the dragons. The Triforce is the key to unlock the seal that keep Princess Zelda locked in the Dungeon. When you have destroyed eight labyrinths and destroyed the eight Dragons, you can complete the Triforce and rescue Princess Zelda.

Re: Zelda Game & Watch game

As real an ending as you can get on a Game and Watch.. when you beat the last dragon and complete the Triforce, you go up to where Zelda is being held behind a wall of flame. The wall of flame is destroyed (presumably by the power of the Triforce, or something) and then Zelda runs over to you.

You can see screenshots of the ending here: http://www.vgmuseum.com/end/gba/b/g&w4_2.htm

Re: Zelda Game & Watch game

:moodswing zelda game and watch deseveres to be in zelda universe's timeline theory much like the four swords games as they both/all 3 have a decent story line but still but they are not inthe timeline.plus the zelda game should not be classed as a secondery game. since when was zelda link's sweetheart?

Tokay link, try and limit your emoticons per message.
To me, the plot seems very, very similar to TLoZ, with the 8 Labrynths. I don't think it's neccesary, anyway.

Re: Zelda Game & Watch game

yea it sure seems similar to Loz but the dragons makes it another thing. Dragons are not that common in the Zelda series but in this one they sure found their way around

Btw.. has anyone played the Zelda watch game (the clock-game). Does that too have another story?

Re: Zelda Game & Watch game

Yeah, It's a neat little watch, and any zelda fanatic should go to E-bay and find one. Speaking of that, why don't I have one? Yeah, I also want one pretty badly, but I hate ordering over the internet. Oh well.

Re: Zelda Game & Watch game

I recently aquired Game & Watch Gallery 4 when I heard that the Game & Watch Zelda was unlockable. Gamefaqs listed that I needed 160 stars to unlock the game; that didn't sound to unreasonable.

To my dismay, however, after an hour of playing, I had managed to earn a grand total of three stars, despite my generally excellent gaming. Difficult indeed.
