maps and compass

i was just thinking today what if zelda had no dungeon maps or compass's i personally think if would make the game a little more difficult (especially for people who constantly look at dungeon maps) but hey thats what we want right more difficulty well anyway to the question

if zelda had no map or compass how would you react and why

Actually the Phantom Hourglass no longer have compasses or maps in the dungeons. So technically, if you've played Phantom Hourglass, you would have already answered your own question. Anyway, I thought it was quite easy with out a map and compass. To be honest, I don't think we would get lost because we one, have the guide books. And 2 we have Link's eyes and head to look at. He usually hints were to go next.

thats true, but i think he meant without guidebooks and the like. the maps and compasses certainly aren't absolutely neccesary, but they do help. I personally wouldn't be too affected because i make a mental map of the dungeons in my head, but i know some people who use the map constantly and pretty much need it to succeed

I think the map and compass help you get a sense of how far through the dungeon you are. Once you get both, for example, you think "ok, now I'm probably at least halfway through". Not to mention that you usually need the compass to find the boss key chest, unless it's already in your path. I'm sure it would be harder without them, but, I don't think it would be more fun. I think instead they should just make the bosses stronger. Morpheel, for example (in TP)- it didn't even really attack you. You just clawshot onto it and stab, then aim, and do it again and again. I think bosses should be more aggressive and do more damage.

i'd be like, eh WHERE ARE THE CHESTS that what i use the map for anyway because with out the compass you wouldn't know where the chests are and with out a map you wouldn't get the compass, so hands down yes it would make dungeon harder but you wouldn't know where the chests are and i like getting chests for the record

I almost never used them. Though, I would imagine it to be annoying with OoT for not being able to check the Gold Skulltulas icon to know if it is completed or not. But as seen with MM, the number of them is displayed on the screen that would work.

I think the next game should borrow from Phantom Hourglass and let us draw our own maps. I would like that. :3

lol im always usin the compass to find stuff so i would be dooooooomed lol

I really only used the map in the lakebed temple, City in the Sky, Twilight Realm Castle, and Hyrule Castle, once I get the feel of the dungeon I can remember where everything is, I do, however, use the compass if I'm after a chest or something.
