Taking it back to the start... and beyond - A Zelda playthrough thread

So just today I had a bit of an epiphany. I have grown rather distant from the Zelda series. The last time I played a Zelda game was when I popped in PH for ten minutes two weeks ago. The time before that? I can't even remember. So I have decided to do something- something to reconnect me to the Zelda series and perhaps renew my love for the games.
I am going to play through every game in the main series.

No, it's not a speedrun. No, it's not a marathon. It is just a purposeful and complete playthough of the series.
I will be, whenever I have the time, playing through every game in the series, starting from The Legend of Zelda and ending on Phantom Hourglass- or Spirit Tracks, if it takes me that long.

Here's my list of games, where I will keep an update on the game I'm playing and where I am in it. I will also ask for help in here, because there are still a couple of Zelda games I haven't beat yet.

The Legend of Zelda (NES)
Completed

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (NES)
Completed

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (GBA)
Completed

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (DX) (GBC)
Completed

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64)
Completed

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (N64)
Great Bay Temple. (yaayz! =D)

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons (GBC)
Completed

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages (Linked) (GBC)
I'll start it soon.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (GC)

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures (GC)

The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap (GBA)

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii)

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (DS)

I dunno if this will take off, but I'll give it a shot. I hope you'll be interested, and maybe even try this yourself- It'll be fun!

Journel Entry #1
All righty then, let's get started! ITS DANGEROUS TO GO ALONE! TAKE THIS! A wooden sword, eh? What good is that suppose to do? :/ I dunno man. Anyway, the original Zelda. Such memories... Or at least, memories I wish I had. I was game deprived as a kid. *sigh*

Journal Entry #19
So Majora's Mask is the greatest game of all time. Yup. it's fun every now and then to break off from the main story and just go sidequestin'- that's what I just did for a while, right before the Great Bay Temple. Fun fun fun. Also really epic story- I love how everyone in the game has some sort of character. I felt myself liking the oceanside skulltula house guy, for gosh sake. xD
Also I beat Oracle of Seasons. Yeeeeaaah. I didn't bother with the last two Heart Peices because Maple and the Gasha Trees are ANNOYING AS **** ARG.
;-; (I hate random chances. *Sigh*)
I'll be inputing my code to Ages soon and continuing that story. =D

Re: Taking it back to the start...

Seems like a good idea. I've felt myself slipping once or twice before, usually some MM or OoT or WW solves that pretty well. Good luck.

Re: Taking it back to the start...

I like this idea, I'll be following your progress, no doubt.

I, too, have been growing a bit distant from Zelda. I've found myself playing MM or OoT occasionally, but that's it. I promised myself I'd play MM on Halloween, since it kinda matches the theme, all dark and creepy.

I'm sure when Spirit Tracks comes out I'll play Zelda more often. And when Zelda Wii comes out, I'll be glued to it, for sure.

I wish you luck, and have fun. :3

Cool, thanks for the support. I'm probably going to have a hell of a time with AoL though. *Grits teeth* Not looking forward to that at all.

Good luck!

I've thought of doing this as well, but I don't own nearly enough Zelda games...I'm missing Zelda 1, Zelda 2, Minish Cap, the Four Swords and the Oracles games.

Don't worry about it; I can't tell you how many times I've died in that game. ;_;

Have fun with AoL, though.

Re: Taking it back to the start...

I did this with the 3D games summer before last. I've been considering doing the entire series, I think I'll try around christmas.

Anyway, have fun with it. There really is a reason we're all such dorks about the series

Wow, so many other people doing it/considering doing it! Cool.

Journal Entry #4
Level 4 was kicking my ass because I kept running out of health and I had no bombs. Remedied this situation by buying the Blue ring and finding some bombs. Hopefully I'll be able to beat it this time.

EDIT: Hahaha. It was level 4, not 3. =P

Re: Taking it back to the start...

I'm actually doing something like this already as well. It's on hold for me until my midterm exams are finished though, because I just don't have enough time to study.

Keep us updated!

Re: Taking it back to the start...

I like to play some of the older zelda games every now and then, the hard part is playing it through. Sometimes I'll start a game and then won't continue it for a few months. Or I'll start another zelda game without replaying the one that I started.

Happy Zelda!

Re: Taking it back to the start...

I like to play Zelda games over again and again. At the moment I have ALttP at the beginning (I did play through all the way from Turtle Rock to the end just this month, but before that it had been At Misery Mire for months... didn't feel like playing), MM is at Ikana canyon right after the Well but not yet past Ancient Castle of Ikana. OoT is at Shadow Temple (I do go Spirit first), PH is at the beginning of the last quarter of the sea. TP at Temple of Time did get the warp point already, LA I don't even remember now because I haven't played in like a year or so, but I have had the sad ghost already in it. Started WW this month and now have got the master sword and taking my time before the second go at the Forsaken Fortress.

Thinking about it now I always have at least one or more Zelda games at some point. I'm never without a running game when it comes to Zelda, but there can be weeks when they just stand there waiting to be continued. Some times there can be even a month or more when I'm not playing a Zelda game but there is always at least on or two running/waiting to be finished.
