LoZ: Extended universe

I was reading up on some theories lately and a thought hit me. Who, besides myself, would like to see a series of LoZ novels? You see star wars and several other pop culture series with long extended universes through novels, why not Zelda? I for one would eagerly collect and read them. And they wouldn't really have to be part of the main storyline of any of the games. Take the story of the Sheikah for instance, I would LOVE to read more about them in any form. Would anyone else like to see a series of books with the LoZ story to them? And yes, I'm aware of the Manga, I'm not talking about the manga, I'm talking about novels.

its a great idea i think. it would definetely take the series to the next level and answer a lot of questions.
the books would allow us to see hyrule maybe from someone elses perspective and not just links

It would build continuity, Build up the story and add to the backgrounds touched on in games if done right as well as further the worlds events and depth if done right.

Depends who rights it.

Again using the star wars series as a reference, I would think it'd be written by many different authors and sent to Nintendo to "confirm" it before printing.

I think that it would be good. I'm actually pretty surprised there aren't any Zelda books already... Maybe Nintendo just doesn't want to let them publish any.

I thought this to. But I remember a few books when I was younger with the Nintendo emblem on them, Donkey Kong and what have you. Give, those were for much younger readers than I'm aiming at now, but still.

Re: LoZ: Extended universe

The problem is that not as many know about Zelda as things like Star Wars. Star Wars has one of the most insane, and biggest fanbases ever. Although many people have congragated here at ZU and other Zelda related places, I highly doubt that our number will ever reach thiers.

True, but keep in mind that I was mainly using star wars as more of a reference than anything. Nintendo itself has a large fanbase an many of them will buy anything with the nintendo name on it. Remember the old DK childrens books?

Not at all, not at all. Wait does that mean I'm not a hardcore fan because I didn't read children books?

No no, the books were absolute disasters content wise (I still read the hell out of them though ) but they still sold fairly well. Which I think makes my point that nintendo fans buy nintendo.

Re: LoZ: Extended universe

Zelda games don't have particularly deep stories to begin with, so books could possibly fill continuity gaps and explain things.

However, I don't want Nintendo to ruin a perfectly good franchise my milking it to death.

Like Pokemon. The games are solid, but the name is a joke. Mostly because of the anime and all the other spin-off rubbish.

yea but the games are still good. So long as the games keep their integrity it can always be revived.

No doubt. But it's hard to restore something's reputation. (Not sure if i'm making sense.) What I mean is, Nintendo should be careful about the direction of the franchise.

It could probably be done though. It would be good if Nintendo could make a Zelda game with a complex, intricate plot, then release a book to expand upon it.

You make a good point. What I would really like to see, however, are books not about the games themselves, but about the times in between, the theories on, well, pretty much everything. I think that the sheik and their history/demise would make a particularly good book, even to a non-fan, but especially to a fan of the series.

It would definilty be awsome if done right. It would have to be careful not to become fanfiction-y.
