Japan-only Fire Emblems

Ike fanboying goes in the other thread. This thread is about the games that came before Fire Emblem GBA.


Fuin no Tsurugi (The Binding Blade)
First GBA Fire Emblem, and last to be released exclusively in Japan. Fire Emblem for GBA is a prequel to this game and was designed to introduce us silly westerners to the series. This is also the game that features Roy, whom you may remember from Smash Bros Melee. A lot of the music from Seisen no Keifu was remixed for this game.


Thracia 776

Dubbed as the hardest Fire Emblem by fans, this game takes place between the 17 year gap in he middle of Seisen no Keifu. This game was released via the Nintendo Power Cartridges in 1999, where you downloaded the game onto the cart. The ROM version was released a year later.


Seisen no Keifu (Geneology of the Holy War)

The favorite of fans of the Japan only games. Unlike the later games, the maps here are enormous and require you capture multiple castles in one mission. This game is also unique in that it has the couple system, where you can make units fall in love and their stats will carry over to their children in the second half of the game.


Monshou no Nazo (Mystery of the Emblem)

Remake of the first game, with a sequel in it as well. It is the first game on the SNES and features Marth, who was also in the DS remake of the first game. This game also got an anime series with based on the game with the same name. 'Twas also the first FE with the dismount command, where Knights on horseback could go on foot if the player so pleased.


Gaiden

The ugly step-child. This game featured many additions that were not added into further sequels, such as an overworld map where you could explore town, and spells being learned as you leveled up. Not to say that it is a bad game, just that not many people played it.


Ankoku Ryu to Hikari no Tsurugi (Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light)

The one that started it all. Also probably contains one of the longest subtitles for a video game. This game was one of the first strategy rpg's out there. This game did not have many of the gameplay features that are in recent games, such as the weapon triangle and colored tiles that told you how far you could move. Regardless, this was the basis for the rest of the series.

Geez I really need to learn japanese..

I really want to play the game with Roy, since it continues FE7's story, which I loved.

Why can't they just release it over here?

Just get the English patch.

Out of those all, I only played FE6. Got pretty far before I lost interest.

If it wasn't for my distrust of ROMs and my lack of understanding of the Japanese language(s), I'd definitely play FE6. The only thing I would worry about is which girl I would have Roy hook up with.

Why hasn't this thread been moved or locked yet? I reported the first post awhile ago. My thread was supposed to be for discussion on ALL of the games.

Ah, whatever. I'll ask a mod myself to do the job then.

These things take time, Crystal, and yours did rather emphasize the international ones. However, I think you should let this thread run its course, as, knowing the general response to quite a few of your posts, someone is going to respond in a mannerism that will cause you to react, which will lead to this thread being a drama-fest. It really is rather unfortunate.

And I think I'd stick Roy with Hector's daughter, upon further thinking on this subject.

I emphasized the international ones more because more people have played them and know about them. And it isn't like I wasn't letting other people discuss the Japan games anyway. Any of you could talk about them all you wanted. I'm not trying to stop you.

Also, I already notified Nolan, so it's too late.

EDIT: Also, I read somewhere that Roy does in fact marry Lilina.

Ranil. Oh, Ranil. This thread is just fine. There's enough talk about Fire Emblem to split it into two threads. That, and I think it would be nice to have a Fire Emblem thread for once where every other post isn't you wanking over Ike.

In her defense, because, god forbid, no one else is ever at her defense, I've only really seen her do this in the fangirl thread (which is perfectly fine) and the Fire Emblem thread, which is technically on-topic, recently.

Are there any other guys for that Bern princess chick with the name I can't remember that starts with G?

Enough talk? I don't see ANY new posts in my thread at all. Also, I only recall "wanking over" Ike in that thread once.

Honestly, I never get away with breaking any rules, yet Wolfen does? I'm not trying to sound immature, but his really is not fair.

I've moderated this board for a while now, and this I know: Ranil squeals about Ike (and/or Luigi) every chance she gets. To her credit, it usually isn't off topic (though you'll notice she makes her own topics just to praise them), but it's still annoyingly repetitive. Especially when other members contest her love for Ike, then it becomes a borderline flame war. Is it all her fault when that happens? No, but she should know to stop bringing it up because the same thing happens every time she does.

Previous FE threads have been very popular and spanned many pages; that's why I think two seperate threads for the topic are justified, just like you might have "2D Mario" and "3D Mario" seperate threads.

Nobody has broken any rules. No one has been warned or infracted. At least in this instance.

FE4 is in my top twenty favourite games. I heartily recommend it to anyone who has not yet played it. It has the best gameplay and the best story in the series.

On the other hand, FE5 is excellent if you want a challenge. And by "challenge", I mean "brutally challenging game that will make you want to throw your computer into a volcanic crater".

Interesting, FE5 looks a lot like a step towards the GBA games in how it's presented.
That said, I would at some point like to give FE6 and FE4 a shot.

I've always wanted to play Fire Emblem 6, since it's technically supposed to come AFTER 7. MINDGAMES, SON! Plus, I mained Roy in Melee, so....yeah.

As for anyone interested in playing Fire Emblem 1, well....go play Shadow Dragon, even though it's RIDICULOUSLY BROKEN!! I'm being serious about that, too.

Please dont let this one get closed too. FE threads always end up locked.

Anyway, i ROMed out some of those. FE4 was interesting but i really didnt care for it as much as so many other fans out there. I found the maps to be too large. (Although the first part was fun with Sigurd raping everything.)

FE5 i didnt get a complete patch (same with FE4 actually). So i didnt play it much.

FE6...this one i played...It was fun but the RNG was crap!!!! OMG! I mean you see Thany having an 89% to hit and guess what? She misses. Its noise!! Other than that and the really boring chapter objectives (they all being "seize"), its alright.

I would, but I'm looking for a good pairing pic to combat yours.

Anyway, I would play the Japan only games if I could get away with emulating them. But I don't think that'll happen until I move out. xP
