More games than friends.
I recently saw a spanish advertisment that made fun of someone that hadmore video games than friends.
That made me think. I probably have more games than friends. Does that make you a loner?

Re: More games than friends.
Depends on. Is it multiplayer games? HOW many more games that friends do you have? And such.

Re: More games than friends.
Depends how you define a friend, but I certainly have more games then I have close friends, yes. It's not surprising. Most people have more music tracks (probably albums too) on their computer then then have close friends, or more movies. What we're assuming now is that having few friends is a bad thing; I only have a handful of close friends but, uh, maintain them. I'd be less close to the friends I did have if I had more of them. The advert plays on the social exception that knowing lots of people makes you cooler, which is actually a pretty ****ty, inconsiderate thing to do; some people are just introverted, after all. If someone had more books then friends, no one would have a problem with it, so I can only see this as an unintentional attack on gaming. Not to act the victim, but unfortunately games still have negative associations, and playing on this in the advert was unnecessary.
Basically, stupid advert. Can you link to it, Valhelm? |

So if you own more video games than you have friends, you have no life? That'll be pretty much every gamer in the world, then. What a stupid claim to make.

Games < Friends
Games > Best buddies And that's not really a problem.

Re: More games than friends.
I'm sorry, but it was a billboard.
I definitley have more games than close friends. I have about the same number of games and freinds, I think, and I certainly have more friends then games I play actively.

Re: More games than friends.
Really stupid thing for them to do. I only have a few (really good) friends and get a new Zelda game every time it comes out, so no matter what, you end up with more games that friends.
You gets games all the time, but you generally stick with a fixed grouped number of friends. |

It showed a 'cool' guy wearing the products of the company and a geekier guy with a caption that says he has more video games than friends.

Re: More games than friends.
Some people are referencing this advert, which was to try and discredit the use of the term 'gay' to mean 'bad'. Penny Arcade voiced their opinion a while ago.
I tend to discredit anything that spells a word using numbers right away, but said billboard is also patronizing and surprisingly narrow minded for a campaign against subconscious predjudices. The adverts you describe? They sound even more degrading. It's product advertising though, so hoping for informed ideas, or even human decency is hoping a little too much.

Re: More games than friends.
Whoa! That advert is extremely similar. I drove by it again today, and it might have said 'likes video games more than friends', which makes more sense. My spanish is really fuzzy, though. I've been taking it for about two weeks, and I had it years ago for a few years.

Re: More games than friends.
Yeah, it's just going by the weird mentality that quantity in friendship is somehow much better than quality. Lawl.
