Re: Eat Some, Double A: Wii Price Drop Coming in October
Your opinion does not matter in the world of business.
This pricecut isn't a matter of "the Wii SUXORZ, it dont deserv 2 b so hi-priced", it's a matter of "the pricecut should have been a last-resort move. Nintendo aren't even close to needing something like that." Read my previous posts as to why.

Re: Eat Some, Double A: Wii Price Drop Coming in October
No, it doesn't. As a gamer, I wouldn't actually mind about the pricecut, since it doesn't directly affect me (it doesn't affect most of the people on this thread either)
However, as one who has some understanding of Nintendo's business strategy, I really wanted to see the time when the PS3 and the 360 were cheaper than the Wii and still being outsold by it. Also, my reasoning is more than "because I want it to" or "because it doesn't deserve to". It's a matter of business smarts. A price cut should have been after Resort, NSMBW and WF+. These three games would have kept Nintendo in the green. The pricecut should have been a "last resort" plan for when they had no system-selling games.

Well, maybe a price cut on the core system is just the beginning of a grander plan for Nintendo.
What if Nintendo decides to start selling the Wii in different colors and/or bundled with Wii Sports Resort and Motion Plus? Then they could put the price right up at $250 again and would continue to put a lot of marketing solely on their controller and its new capabilities.

The PS3 hadn't had a price cut since November 2nd, 2007 prior to the introduction of the Slim. Short-term indeed.

Well look at the games. People will only buy a console if thers a game/s they wanna get for it. I'm assuming that the PS3 had far more system-selling games than the Wii.

I don't live in the UK, but: http://www.mcvuk.com/news/35882/New-...-bundle-leaked
So maybe this is the direction Nintendo's moving in? Like I already said, if Nintendo includes WM+ and Resort in the Wii package, they'd have plenty of reason to put it at $250 (or whatever the original price was, depending on region) and lower the price of the core system to something more along the lines of $200.

Though actually, at this point, I would rather just see a Wii HD.

Still, if Nintendo's really gonna put out that new bundle without dropping the price, I can't complain. Again, bad business ideas.

He's from New Zealand. That qualifies him to make uneducated comments on every single matter from astrophysics to sexual encounters. I'm from Australia. That qualifies me to point out how most of what he says is irrelevant, and uninformed, and ultimately useless to society as whole.
Anyway, not particularly surprised at the new price drop/bundle. In Japan especially, the PS3 is muscling in on the Wii, and it has far more many blockbusters up and coming than the Wii does, and is a much better money for mileage money. Nintendo may have a massive lead, but I can see why they'd be somewhat anxious. |

Re: Eat Some, Double A: Wii Price Drop Coming in October
@raunm: Why would Wii HD be at all a good idea?
Plus, I don't really see Nintendo making another console with the same controls as the Wii @Crab Helmet: The PS3 has been outselling the Wii because the Wii had nearly no system-sellers out for a long time. A price drop won't fix that. In the long run, Nintendo are only hurting themselves with the pricecut.

Re: Eat Some, Double A: Wii Price Drop Coming in October
Because it would be direct competition against Sony and MS, with their values, for a smaller audience. Nintendo wouldn't stand a chance, since Sony and MS are godlike at battling for the "hardcore". Nintendo would be putting more effort into gaining less money.
Not that Nintendo would want to try so hard for an audience that largely abandoned them in the N64/GC eras. Why would it be a good idea? Quote:
Wii Sports, Wii Fit, pretty much all of the games which are in the top 6 or so of all the games sold on the Wii are system sellers, because they sold the hardware.
