September 24th-27th
Introduction of Fall
Fall. Along with the cool weather, football games and the turning of the leaves, fall brings the advent of the gaming enthusiast's busiest time of year. As if the beautiful scenery and plethora of game releases were not enough, however, the industry brings two final offerings to the season to overwhelm the senses. These events are the Tokyo Game Show and Nintendo's October Conference.
The second biggest gaming conference of the year behind the Electronic Entertainment Expo, The Tokyo Game Show is Eastern developer's big chance of the year to show off their newest and greatest products. This year, the conference is running from Thursday, September 24th to Sunday, September 27th.
An important fact to remember about TGS is that Nintendo does not attend the event, instead choosing to have their own private press events in each territory a few weeks after the TGS event. This does not mean that Nintendo systems do not have any presence at the show! Third-party Nintendo developers use the event themselves to announce and demonstrate their new products. All together, however, it should be noted that for some people, TGS always seems to fall flat; Understandable considering one of the best developers and platform holders is not making an appearance. For discussion and more information on Nintendo's Fall Conference,
please follow this thread. Keynotes and Events of Interest
Unlike E3, the Tokyo Game Show does not hold individual conferences for each game company. Instead, the event holds a series of keynotes, with one main keynote headlining the show. This year, TGS will be keynoted by Kaz Harai of Sony, giving a presentation called "A New Strategy for 2009."
In the past, everything from the Wiimote to Microsoft's newest Xbox 360 dashboard features have been announced at TGS keynotes, so make sure to grab a stream or live feed when the time comes around.
