Question about 360 placement

Alright, I recently re-arranged the locations of all my components (TV box, Amp, 360) in the bookcase that my TV rests on. Right now, the TV box is resting on top of the Xbox, which is on its own shelf. The Xbox is about three or four inches away from the wall behind it.

Now, my question is, could this setup be potentially dangerous to my system? Is it a bad idea to put things on top of the console? And finally, does anyone else have a setup similar to mine? If so, have you had any problems?

I've thought about buying a cooling fan just to make sure, but I don't know if it's worth it.

Also, in case my description of my setup wasn't clear enough, here's a diagram:

The blue and gray thing is my TV box (AT&T), The grey thing with the weird feet is my amp, and it's obvious which one is the Xbox (although mine isn't RRoD).

Re: Question about 360 placement

It depends on the object's weight. If it weighs more than half of what the Xbox does, then, after a while, it could cause some serious damage.

Re: Question about 360 placement

No, it's really light, and it doesn't get hot after being on for a long time. It has the potential of blocking heat from escaping, though.

Re: Question about 360 placement

I've had a VCR on top of my original Xbox with no ill effects, but the 360 is a lot less mechanically reliable than the original, so I wouldn't recommend it.

Re: Question about 360 placement

My biggest concern is the issue of heat. The main thing I want to know is if anyone has had any similar setups (with the Xbox in cramped quarters) and if they have ever had any problems concerning temperature.

And then there's the whole cooling fan question. Does anyone know if it's worth getting one?

Re: Question about 360 placement

The heat is an issue. This might be too awkward, but, can you put the TV box and te 360 side-by side and horizontal?

Re: Question about 360 placement

No, the diagram is a little inaccurate, there isn't that much room on either side of the console. Maybe 4-5 inches.

Re: Question about 360 placement

Oh, okay. If the diagram accurately potrays the shelves, can you switch the placement of the stereo and the 360, and place the TV box on top of the stereo?

I'm sorry if that didn't make any sense.

Re: Question about 360 placement

No, I don't think I want to mess with the amp. We had enough trouble getting it where it is and setting up the speakers.

But as I said before, the diagram is NOT accurate.

Re: Question about 360 placement

Alright, I see. I say that you should just leave everything where it is. I don't think that heating will be an issue. I'm sorry that I couldn't help.

Re: Question about 360 placement

You want as much room around the console as you can. Putting something on the console may prevent the console from getting proper ventilation, or even add heat to the 360 depending on how hot the TV box itself gets.

Personally I wouldn't even put a 360 in an enclosed unit unless there were fans in the back of it (1-2 120mm fans would do it), or there was a lot of space. Many people have similar setups without issue, but I wouldn't risk it myself.

Re: Question about 360 placement

I usually have my 360 in a semi open area. Also do NOT buy a cooling fan that attaches to your Xbox. It drains the power from your xbox and makes it work even harder causing more heat, or so I've been told.
