Who is a more memorable character: Link or Mario?

They both come from about the same time so what do you think?

I would say Link. The Zelda games have always seemed to surpass Mario, to me. And I've never seen any of the blasphemous cartoons, but what I saw from the review of both by ThatGuyWithTheGlasses, the Zelda one actually seemed a bit better, though they both are apparently piles of horse excrement.

I would say Mario, because Link is a silent protagonist and all that. Mario is displayed to have a certain silly personality, whereas Link is quite what you make of him.

Tiny Italian man who can jump crazy high and has a fabulous mustache vs left-handed elf with a weird-looking hat.

Gotta go with Mario.

Mario. He is Nintendo's mascot, after all, and has much more of a recognisable personality in the games.

Mario, defnintely.

I find both characters to have something about them that makes them memorable.
Link is the silent, powerful hero that we all admire while Mario is the cheerful, funny character that we all love. It's really about taste.

I hate Mario, he must be the most annoying Nintendo character ever.
I vote for Link.

I have to say Mario because back when games were starting out, everyone loved Mario. Now during these times, everyone who's played a video has heard of Mario so that means that even the old people know about Mario. A lot of old people don't know much about Link but they do know about Mario. =p I don't think Link really got a break until ALtTP. Mario on the other hand got his break in the Donkey Kong game. =p

i woulld prefer link any day. but you got to give it to mario, i mean he's the one that started it all

I was gonna go with Mario, but I kinda realized that ever since the SSB games(brawl in particular), Link has become more and more noticed among generally non-gamers.

I mean, there's been times where I'm walking around campus/parties with any of my zelda shirts, and peole seem to connect with me instantly, some even high-fiving me just for wearing a Zelda shirt.

The Verdict: Still Mario probably, but Link has certainly gained popularity with non-gamers to rival with Mario.

I prefer Link over Mario any day. But when it comes to being memorable...you gotta give that to Mario. If Link had a personality and such, I think he'd be more memorable than he is now.

And as -Link-182- said, Link is becoming more and more popular. Who knows what will happen years from now?

Personally, while I like Lnk more, I have to say that Mario is a more memerable character. Mario has a more outward type of personality, while Link is more quite and to himself.
It's just like at work, or school. Who do you remember most, the quite guy that keeps to himself, or the guy that talks to everybody all the time?

I'd go with Link. His heroism is far greater then that mario. Mario's goal is usualy just to save princess peach because Bowser wants a little alone time with her. While Link ends up saving an entire land from destruction or slavery.
It's a known fact that the Hero is a legend and remembered through centuries, doubt it will be the same for Mario.

I like Link more and LoZ more, but I gotta say it's Mario. He's a character everyone knows and loves.

Neither of them have personalities. They may as well be eachother.

I think this thread is more leaning towards which is most memorable to people in reality (us), not the people from the games. While I like Link more, I think Mario is more memorable. Not only that, there are cameo appearances of Mario in some of the Zelda games too that adds up.

I'd have to say Mario: As far as I know, every single person I know at least has some clue about Mario, and others don't even have a dim light of knowing who Link is.

While Link is more heroic in my opinion, Mario is just more memorable. Because he's still the mascotte of Nintendo. Similar with for example Sega, when we're discussing them and the most memorable character from them it would defenitly be Sonic.

Both are appealing characters in their own respect. Mario has addicting games and so did Link. I go with Link because of the nostalgia I get from the whole LoZ series and for how it's captivated me.
