Who is a more memorable character: Link or Mario?

2. His platformers are accompanied by amazingly refined gameplay, which is, at times, more enjoyable than Zelda's.

3. His recent Super Mario Galaxy has way better music and far more epic moments than any other Zelda game (except perhaps the ending of OoT)

4. There are far more children than there are hardcore gamers. No ♥♥♥♥ he's more well-known. Not to mention that the hardcore no longer control the industry.

5. Childish =/= bad.

After Mario Galaxy, I can honestly say that this is very possible. If it weren't for the fact that OoT was, technically, my first videogame, then this would be a split-second decision. But as it stands, it's a pretty hard decision.

I sure can. Like said in the post above, Mario was what made me play video games today. Whenever I see the word Nintendo, the first thing to pop in my head (other than Ike, of course) is Mario. What Nintendo Halloween costumes did I see this year? Mario and Pikachu. No Link. I really think more peeps have Mario in a fonder place in their hearts than they have Link.

Double A, I wouldn't consider Mario being memorable solely due to his recent 3D title, Galaxy. Yes it was a good game, but that isn't the reason why he's memorable. Don't get me wrong, Super Mario Galaxy is a great game and all, and I'm excited for SMG2 as much as any mario fan here. However, being memorable is looking at the many many years of how something/someone has developed over time, in my opinion. Having said this, Mario's past and old-school games have developed his character, making him very memorable and well-known around the world.

I know that. I was just pointing out that the game itself is memorable, and it made me have that much more respect for the plumber.

I would say Link.

Make no mistake, the reason why Mario is so memorable is not Galaxy, not by far. It's aaaaall about the old-school 2D games, people. Afterall, didn't NSMB sell much more than Galaxy? Oh I think it did.

Needless to say, of course Mario is a more memorable character. He's more flexible than Link as a video game character, and his overly italian accent is more recognizable than, say, Link's "mute-ness".

Who's the better character would probably be different, but most memorable? You just have to give it to Mario.

Mario is definitely more memorable just in the general scheme of things. Someone who isn't into games at all is more likely to know who you're talking about if you say "Mario, you know, he eats mushrooms" as opposed to "Link, you know, looks kind of like an elf, pointy ears, green tunic? Saves the princess?"

If you show someone a picture of Mario, they'll say "Oh yeah, I love Mario."

Show them a picture of Link, they'll say "Oh cool, it's Zelda."

LOL That reminds me. When I was in Primary School (not sure whut you 'merricans call it), I told my friend about LoZ. He told me he had a figurine of Zelda... "the dude in green ridin a red horse."

When I was in primary school, my friend's brother dressed as Link for a fancy dress party and started running around yelling that he was Zelda. If anyone tried to correct him he got mad.

Can I pick option 3: Pikachu? Because Pokemon will very soon overtake Mario as the franchise that has sold the most games if both series continue at their current rate, and Pokemon has far more coverage than Mario due to the television series and card game. I reckon Pikachu is probably the most recognisable video game character to the average layman.

Yeah, Mario; he's far more iconic than Link is. Ask a random person on the street if they know who the "Super Mario Bros." are, and they'll likely say that they do know. Ask a random person if they know who "Link" is, they probably won't.

And Zelda games aren't silly and childish? With middle-aged men who want to be fairies, chickens with human heads, talking hats, midgets that transform in to evil sorcerors, fairies, little tree stump people that fly around with leaf-propellers, and fat guys who sure do know how to boogie?

Sorry but Zelda games are pretty damn silly as well, so your argument falls through and you made yourself look like a jackass in that post.

Yes fine you win.... I'll admit Mario is more "memorable", but only because nobody else could come up with something so original than an Italian plumber who kills turtles and saves princesses.

But my opinion is now and will always be, that LoZ series has better games than the Mario franchise.

As characters, neither Mario nor Link really have much of a personality at all.

I beg to differ. Pokemon is behind by about 20 million, and NSMBWii and Galaxy 2 are coming out soon.

Not to mention Mario was around longer, so I bet Mario is still more well-known.

Link has green tights. All other arguments are irrelevent.

In OoT and WW, it was WHITE tights.

In TP, it was more of a light-brown-white color.
