Who is a more memorable character: Link or Mario?

Mario, definitely. He's Nintendo's mascot and he pretty much started it all for them. I also think the Mario games are better than Zelda. Oh yeah, I also believe Mario is the first game series I ever played. I grew up with Luigi too, not Link. Luigi is the closer thing to Mario. :3

Although Link is memorable in his own right, Mario is moreso. Most people my age and younger have grown up with Mario. Hes kinda like the old childhood friend whos been there forever. Link doesnt quite have the same feel although he was there in my childhood.

I voted for Mario even though I hate their games(seriously some have no purpose and are just boring) because everyone I know has heard about it with their o- so-many games it's hard not to notice now, even if Zelda games deserve more credit. But when the Zelda Wii game comes out, hopefully that will change.

I think Mario. Link is just not a very good conversationist (not that Mario is, but he still says Mama-Mia as opposed to "Hyaaaaa, yaaa!")

although i hate mario (luigi, the underappreciated older bro, is 10x better) and love the zelda series the name and his logo M is known alot better than the triforce and link or zelda

Yeah, Mario is known way more than Link. I don't know a single person who doesn't know Mario. And whenever i go to a store, i always see Mario merchandise. Almost every store i know. And i can't find a single item like a shirt or hat from Zelda.
Im not a fan of Mario. But alot of people love him so much. I find nothing interesting in Mario's character design and personality.

Mario is just much more famous-- he's a funny, fat guy.
But for me, it's Link. Sure Mario's got the mustache, red hat, and flab, but Link's muteness and weird green hat is as much of that for me.

Ahh...... I would choose Mario over Link, I mean Link is adorable and just so darn legendary, but it seems like Mario done it all. From first saving princess Peach in the 80's to swinging the Wii mote like a bat to make a home run or dancing his A off in DDRMM and flying into space or just putting soccer to a whole new level or even being a doctor solving puzzles to get rid of virus's. And besides that Italian plumber has been around since gaming time began. If theirs just one thing Mario haven't done then I would like to know.

Actually, Mario and Luigi are twins.

But if either of them is called older, it's Mario, since he emerged from his sling first at the end of Yoshi's Island.

But I do agree, Luigi is the better, cooler, and awesomer brother. He's just plain funny and awesome. Super Jump and green ftw. :3

I like Link more, but it's a contest of who is more widely known, and the one (I think right now) now is Mario.
But like some others have said Link seems to be becoming more widely known, so it might turn towards Link in a few years.

I'd say Mario for his personality. Although it's a tough choice, as Link is memorable in different ways.

In my mind it's Link. Mario is defiantly up there too, but when someone says "Nintendo!" I instantly think of a boy running around in green in Hyrule.

For me, Mario. He's iconic. Everyone knows Mario, he symbolises videogames. Link...well no one I know recognises him.

PLUS Mario is a plumber. A plumber. AWESOME!

I've always had issues with Link's personality, what little there is doesn't show through as well.

Even though I like Link's games more, in terms of who is more memorable, it has to be Mario. I mean, EVERBODY knows who Mario is, even people who never held a video game controller in their life. You can't say the same about Link.

They are both memorable characters, but Mario has become the sort of "face", as you will, for Nintendo. Everyone knows who Mario is, but not everyone knows who Link is (as unfortunate as it may be).

I even disagree with my answer because Link is the more memorable character for me haha

This is a rough one, personally. While both Link and Mario are memorable in their own right, it seems that Mario is the icon for Nintendo--hands down. I was also surprised that after voting that Mario was winning out on a Zelda forum. Anyways, I agree with alot of other posters that each is iconic and memorable in their own respective right.

Personally, I've never been let down by a Zelda game, always had those core principles to gameplay that kept me coming back, while there's been a few Mario titles that were a disappointment--which would include spin-offs. I'll always love SMB 1 & 3, SMBW, M64....but after that...nope.
