Contra fans - are you ready?
Contra ReBirth hits North America this Monday
And, if I'm not mistaken, it launched in Europe this week. Contra 'round the world!! I think I can safely say I'm more excited about this than any retail software being released the rest of this year. |

Re: Contra fans - are you ready?
I think I may be ready. This is great news. I love contra. Contra 3: The Alien Wars will always have a special place in my heart.

Suprisingly, I was way better at them when I was younger.

Same. I couldn't beat the first level of Contra 3.

Re: Contra fans - are you ready?
Yknow, I don't get why people seem to ignore the Contra games between Hard Corps and 4, Neo Contra and Shattered Soldier are both pretty good.
A lot of people seem to think that Contra disappeared after the 16 bit generation and didn't reappear with Contra 4 which is a shame really : / |

Re: Contra fans - are you ready?
Dude. Metal Slug is SOO much better. Metal Slug 7 on the DS was fantastic. Metal Slug 4, 1, and 7 are some of the greatest platforming shooters I've ever played.
And I sorta wanted Contra 4 but Contra games always kick my ass so....

I wouldn't say they are much easier than the Contra games really, they aren't based around memorization as much though. |

I just saw today that they put up Contra Rebirth. 1000 points... I might get it, I'm always up for a round of good ol' shooters.

And Neo Contra was a bit too easy by Contra standards, but it made for a good rental regardless.

Re: Contra fans - are you ready?
Yeah, having played through some of ReBirth today, I know why Contra's better.
You guys say you age several years on the last level of a Metal Slug game? ReBirth's first level could do that to you ![]() Between this and Muramasa on Hard, I'm gonna be taking some punishment for the next couple weeks. |

The last level is pretty much one of the most intense and awesome sequences in any game I've ever played, you keep thinking "ok, it can't get any better" and it just keeps dishing out more awesome. Quote:

Re: Contra fans - are you ready?
It's not clunky at all. Other than when you're hitting like 10+ enemies at once or are performing some mega move, the framerate is rock solid. Your characters move very fluently and the controls, at least for me, are great. So far I've only used the remote/nunchuk combo, which I have a bias for after playing Brawl with it for so long.
I'm still early in the game, but for what I played it was fun. However, you really need to play on the Hard mode right away. The easier one is like a simplified Castlevania. Hard, on the other hand, is basically a console Ninja Gaiden in 2D; you absolutely must utilize your character's speed and agility while figuring out what swords work best for you. The first boss killed me 7 times before I finally beat him. |
