Wii VS. Xbox 360
Okay; I'm going to settle this worldwide debate.
In one thread. Which is better - Xbox 360 or Wii? Please state your opinion nicely, openly, and provide good, solid evidence as to why one or another is better. This is not an order, but a request. Let's all try to be big boys :3 Feel free to lash out at each other about which is better, argue, debate, and discuss. Just don't take it to the personal level, okay? As for me? In my opinion, Wii is much better than the 360 because (besides the Eye Toy for the PlayStation), it is the first console to feature interaction in a way separate from a controller, while keeping the same amount of addictive gameplay and fun that Nintendo has always offered. Plus, the Wii's price has gone down almost $50 from $250, while the Xbox 360's price has remained pretty much the same over the course of its release in 2005, at $400. Discuss.

Re: Wii VS. Xbox 360
I dunno. I really havent played a 360 so i really couldnt tell you in my opinion, which is better. Id say for the most part, when it comes to quality of how the consoles are built, Wii wins. Ive heard many stories of people with 360s getting Red Ring of Death, etc. Hell, the dude at Gamestop told me he had to replace his 360 three times, all within warrenty! I dont know if i want to spend money on something that wont last me.
Online capabilities. Hmmm. well Nintendos wifi service is free. Sure it aint the best but it costs nothing and i like that. XBOX LIVE or whatever thats called, costs per month. I know it doesnt cost that much but still, it costs, and thats a con in my eyes. Graphics. Well im pretty sure 360 has better graphics. Of course this sort of thing is not something i really care about. I look for quality in my games, not eye candy. So well...i dunno. Gameplay. Sadly i cant really compare since i really never played a 360 enough to know much about the controls. The Wii's controls will improve now that the Wii Motion Plus is out. (i still need one...) Wii does have alot of fun (and sometimes ridiculous) periphrials though. Also i like the fact that in some games, you can use other controllers like the Classic Controller or the Cube one. Library. Biggest pro to 360 here. Yeah it wins in this catagory. D: It burns me up theres not alot of really awesome stuff out for the Wii. Theres a few here and there and the first party titles do rule, but its just not enough. Two titles i highly anticipate are not even coming to the Wii. (They are Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and Brutal Legend) So in short, i really cant say concrete, which is better.

Re: Wii VS. Xbox 360
For me, the Wii is the better console purely because my favourite series are on Nintendo consoles - for instance, the Legend of Zelda and the Mario series. Also, there are several other games that I enjoy very much on the Wii, such as Okami and Pikmin 2, that cannot be found on the Xbox 360 (though they can be found on earlier generations).
Also - and I must emphasize this - a console does not need to be incredibly powerful to host beautiful games. It's all in the art style. Just look at Super Mario Galaxy. |

Secondly, peripherals that offer interactivity separate present since the NES, so you clearly have no idea what you are talking about. Plus, my 360 has yet to provide me with any trouble, and I've had it for almost a year now. Plus, while Xbox Live isn't free, it's miles better than Nintendo's excuse for online. No friend codes, great service, tons of features (For a console), and overall good quality. Best online you will get on a console. Not to mention the 360 has a vastly superior library. Many games are not ported to the Wii due to it lacking the power to do so, or if it is, it is a bastardized version of the game. PC smokes them both anyway.

If those free services can provide quality, why can't Nintendo put some effort into it?

Re: Wii VS. Xbox 360
Personally I have a PS3, 360, and good gaming PC. I do not own a Wii, and I do not plan on getting one until a new Zelda is nearing release. I own every Nintendo system minus the Virtual Boy (and Wii lol), so I have nothing against Nintendo.
In general it just seems like the Wii has got too many developers into a mode where they focus too much on the controller. Rather than trying new things with their stories or trying to invent new entertaining gameplay ideas they seem to be stuck trying to do the same thing as always but with different controls. That's cool if you're into non traditional control schemes, but I personally just want good games. As a counter to what I just said about the Wii some may say the PS3/360 have developers stuck on only trying to improve visuals, but that couldn't be further from the truth. We're seeing some seriously fun and innovative stuff like fully destructible environments, completely interactive environments, 256 player online games, and user created content for games. Those kinds of things interest me a lot more than innovative ways to replace button pushes with waggle. I did not mean this to sound as harsh as it does. It just turned out like that lol.

Re: Wii VS. Xbox 360
The 360 hardware is without a doubt garbage. I am still on my first, but it's only a matter of time really. I wish it'd last forever, but out of everyone I know I am the only person who's owned a 360 for this long without it failing.

Xbox 360 is best. I have never had mine break. Wii is alright. I like in Xbox 360 the achievement system, it gives you something to work for after game completion.

Re: Wii VS. Xbox 360
I personally prefer the Wii.
I love the way it differentiated itself from its competition. I like Nintendo games. I have a sort of thing for underdog stories. And I like supporting the side with the seemingly least support (see: me in the Future Zelda boards). For some reason, whichever side that is looks after my interests the best. It's interesting to me how Nintendo beat two companies that have infinitely more resources than them, and have vastly more powerful consoles. I like reading Malstrom's thoughts on the matter. In the words of Malstrom: Quote:

Re: Wii VS. Xbox 360
My biggest problem with the achievement system is that it just seems like a less genuine way to bring out the replayability in games. It feels like an artificial means of bloating games so that they are more worth their $60 price tags.

Re: Wii VS. Xbox 360
I have all three, and I can't pick a favourite. They all have certain things that they do better than the other.
The Wii has the better franchises The PS3 has great graphics, blue ray, MGS4 The Xbox has great online, Halo 3, Tales of Vesperia I don't see why there has to be a best. They are all great in different ways, just leave it at that.

And yes, there's no doubt that they've played a role in developers believing they can use them while giving us an 8 hour game for $60 and consider it a reasonable value. |
