Given the vast collection of quality PS2 titles, it would have been a great benefit for PS3.

[seriously, if you don't own a ps2 by now you are a dumbass.

It sells still, so obviously there are people who
don't have it.

Honestly, if you have enough to buy a ps3, I'm pretty sure you have enough to spend a few extra bucks on a ps2.

That's kinda jumping to conclusions, no?

Sell your damn wii or something, ps2 is a much better investment than that white "revolutionairy" rectangle.

The Wii offers quality Wii titles, as well as backwards compability for the Gamecube, and the Virtual Console lets you play quality NES, SNES and N64 titles. So, which is the better investment? I don't care, the PS3 would still have been better off with PS2 support.

I guess the PS3 games could be a reason to buy a PS3. If people want to play PS2 so badly, they could just go play a ps2. The only reason people with PS2s would want the compatibility is so they don't have to leave it plugged in, like me, and everyone else I know with a ps3.
|
Naturally, the reason why you'd want a PS3 is because of the games (or the blu-ray, I suppose). Incidentally, PS2 support would probably not be the selling point, but it would
certainly make the console more attractive.

What exactly is your point with blu-ray here?
|
You mentioned how PS2 support would raise the price. Blu-ray did just that, yet you still see price cuts that are going to press the price to below the Wii even. The price problem is shrinking - for consumers, at least.

Pretty much yeah. This never seemed to be a big deal going from NES to SNES to N64 to gamecube. Why all of a sudden is this such a huge problem now?
|
It's not a huge problem for anyone, with the possible exception of Sony themselves. PS2 support is NOT a necessity, but it would have made the PS3 a much more attractive console and a better purchase. It's not bad for consumers as much as it is inconvenient for the PS3, and possibly consumers who would have liked to play PS2 games on their PS3 but who lack the PS2.

I just want to know, because i'm not sure if you have already said this or not. Do you own a ps3?
|
Nope. I was lucky enough to land a PS2, so I'm perfectly happy with that. Plus my brother bought a 360, so there's really no actual reason for me to buy one.
