Japanese Ver. VS English Ver.

Okay, here's the thing. Almost every game I play that was originally Japanese I play the Japanese version and the English version. For some STRANGE reason I always tend to like the Japanese versions better. I don't know what it is that makes me think like that... but one game in particular... RHYTHM HEAVEN! The dubbing on the translated version is just... oh god... horrible. The Japanese version (Rhythm Tengoku Gold) was so much better. Also on the english version it tended to go offbeat on some parts of songs... but that may just be in my head. Also, Ouendan 2 --> EBA... okay, I bet you are thinking, those are practically the same game... WRONG!!! Ouendan 2 was by far the hardest in the whole Ouendan/EBA series, c'mon, COUNTDOWN vs. Without a Fight... need I say more? In my opinion, the Japanese versions of games are usually WAY better than the English versions. So yeah, you guys let me know YOUR thoughts on this topic and also take part in that little poll I left up there for you all.

With best regards,
Zorathan

inb4 people start yelling weeaboo

No, I really do agree with you. The Japanese voices sound more like what the creator had in mind, and generally fit the character better.

The Japanese games tend to have more fun stuff and special features.

This can be seen with nearly any of the Pokemon games where people in Japan have access to more events and such.

The Japanese version of the Megaman BattleNetwork series always had more Battlechips and enemies to face, which was always disappointing for an American to find out.

Re: Japanese Ver. VS English Ver.

Sonic CD's Japanese/European version had infinitely better music, while the American version had somewhat better gameplay.

In Melee, I play around with English AND Japanese. It's easier to get around in English, but only Japanese has Mewtwo actually speak.

Re: Japanese Ver. VS English Ver.

There are, in rare cases I would enjoy the Japanese voice acting if the American voice acting is just so unbearable to listen to. Other than that, I don't mind the American dubs.

Edit: Ah, wait, editions. Okay.

Depends, really. For older games where I can download the roms for, if the American version has too much censorship, I will get the Japanese copy and add a translation patch to it. Seeing I don't play too much current games, I don't really care for what is in the games that are out these days.

Re: Japanese Ver. VS English Ver.

The only time I'll import a japanese copy of a game is when an english version isn't available, it's in a genre where i don't have to understand any of the text and it's on a console where importing is easy (or I own a japanese console). So I mainly import scrolling shooters, fighters (when I can : /) and platformers.

And you should get the original Rhythm Tengoku, it's pretty much the best rhythm game ever.

Re: Japanese Ver. VS English Ver.

One problem. Ouendan 2 is different than EBA. It's not a japanese version of a game. It's a different game.

Right, so this was because Forte says he doesn't like himself. I want him to like himself a bit more.

They're probably the only japanese games he's ever played.

Technically speaking, but if you put a little more thought into it, they aren't going to release a game with all Japanese songs in America, so of course they had to change it, but the way you unlock the stages, it is almost exactly the same (besides the songs).

Re: Japanese Ver. VS English Ver.

Which is why the Japanese versions of DDR games are infinitely superior. I want my upbeat j-pop music to dance to. Not whatever crappy ass American popular music they put in the NA version. Seriously, who'd give up Rhythm and Police for Oops, I Did It Again?
