Guilty Gaming Pleasures

It's funny. Today, I randomly popped in Quest 64 and started a new file. It's a pretty awful game. There is absolutely no story, the gameplay is very primitive, and it can get pretty tedious when the dungeons are long and repetivive, and you can only save by going back to the inn a the nearest town (which is usually very far away), but... for some weird reason I love it.

Maybe it's because I see some potential in the battle system, or maybe it's because the forests and caves still give off this creepy, isolated feeling that I love. Maybe it's because the primitive 3D gives me a nostalgic hard on. I don't know what it is, but I enjoy this game. I suppose it's a guilty pleasure.

With all that said, there is one thing in Quest 64 that stands out, and that's this song. Freakin' awesome!

I was thinking this could make a fun thread; so, what exactly are your guilty gaming pleasures? Come on! Don't be ashamed if you love Superman 64, or maybe you even like putting the Gamcube controller's c-stick in your mouth. Now's the time to be honest, and get everything off your chest. We won't judge you.

Yoshi's Story.

I know it's not really a great game, but I can't help but get nostalgic whenever I play it...it was my first Nintendo 64 game, and I was dazzled by it at the time.

Heh, I remember 11 years ago when I was 10, and my father rented this game because he thought the graphics and effects looked amazing. I sat on the couch watching him play, and honestly, even at the young age of 10, I knew it was a bad game.

Re: Guilty Gaming Pleasures

I have too many guilty pleasures to list for games. The ones that come to mind are enjoying most the 3D Sonics ( ...except for "Sonic 2006" ), enjoying the ever so repetitive Rampage world tour/Total destruction, and mountains of "old outdated too difficult" games from years ago. I also prefer cuter, more "kiddy" games with colorful heroes than the gritty brown "mature" games.

Re: Guilty Gaming Pleasures

Quest 64 is the worst game I've ever played, not couting stupid flash games and freeware crap of the internet. It's the only game I've ever got rid of just because I couldn't stand it anymore. That being said, I agree with you: the battle system was pretty unique and had some potential. The music was also pretty catchy as well, it had a unique Celtic vibe to it. But everything else was just augh.

For me, I dunno. I'm pretty easy to please in general, so I'm more willing to overlook flaws in a game, so games that most people would consider "average" I can come away saying "that was pretty good." Some of the Mega Man X games probably count. I didn't mind X7, and I think X8 is one of the best ones, but those two are derided constantly, but that's probably due to stupid fandom more than anything.

Re: Guilty Gaming Pleasures

Quest 64 isn't that bad, I completed it. It obviously isn't good but there are plenty of RPGs that are worse. It's just incredibly bland and boring more than anything else

And Pokemon Snap is really great!

I got The Last Remnant a few days ago and I've been playing it since, I am really enjoying it! I mean sure it has some major technical problems (UT3!) and the story is pretty stupid but I've had a blast with it and it really didn't deserve to be shat on by "game critics" like it was, especially considering the fact the same critics ignored Mass Effect's and Oblivion's tech issues completely. It's also pretty much the only JRPG released this gen that isn't utterly middle of the road, Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey are basically Final Fantasy games, Tales of Vesperia is the same as other Tales games and let's not touch Tri-Ace .__.

Yoshi's Story isn't a bad game. It's not a good sequel to Yoshi's Island (apparently, Yoshi's Island DS wasn't either), but it was a fun game nonetheless.

I still own Rampage World Tour for N64. I remember I'd always get two other friends to beat the game with me... we'd usually get bored and turn it off before than, but the few times we made it to the moon was awesome! Well, it was a nice change in scenary for a game where everything looks the same.

Re: Guilty Gaming Pleasures

You know, my only guilty gaming pleasure would be the fact that at least once a year, I play through Ocarina of Time at least once all the way through. Every item, heart and area completely covered.

I can't do this with any other game at all.

it doesn't help that Yoshi's Story looks worse than Yoshi's Island. And Yoshi's Island DS is worth playing, it just can't touch any of the main mario games.

I sadly enjoy Tak2, it didn't deserve any of the **** it was given in reviews and whatnot.

I would also like to point out that Shadow the Hedgehog is an amazing game and a hell of a lot of fun. I don't care if you bash it, I still love this gem of a game.
