While the Wii has a lot of great software, it also has the most shovelware out of any of the systems this gen. There are definitely a lot of core and enjoyable games for the system, but as you know some developers are getting the wrong idea and are putting out less-than-average games.

Every system has crappy games, it doesn't matter how many Wii has because it has plenty of great, quality products which are the only things that should matter to a gamer. PS2 has far more crap than it did good, but we all ignored that army of shovelware as we should have because the system still offered something worthwhile to us. The PC is in the same exact position.

That's also the same crowd of gamers that believe Wii Fit is an abomination, the same crowd that was giving garbage scores to videos of Natal on Gametrailers when it first debuted.

I don't want any system to become devoted to shovelware casual games. My whole point is that I'd find it hilarious to see the reactions of those types of gamers when 360 starts a legit campaign to bring in the casual audience as it's doing now. They're the ones who think that the genre is **** and deserves no place in the world, even if it's unique and well-made like a Natal or Wii Fit.

This has to be fake. Even the logo uses the same font as WiiSports. Pathetic! I just lost respect for Microsoft assuming this is true... but it can't be, can it?

Also, this thread is very good at revealing the Nintendo fanboys.

I mean, look at the video. It's there, it'd be quite a fake if someone forged it.

Sorry, I Photoshopped the logo on for humour like Tonchiki said. Maybe I should clarify that in the OP.

Why are people talking about Natal? Where in that video did we ever see a hint of motion controls? No-where. It's button-press (which is pretty anti-Natal, dontcha think?)

Well it isn't hard if you already have a font that looks like the Wii one, yes.

The 360 can have a casual game if it wants to. It can leave it's fans behind.

Because its fans aren't casual gamers and if they're not casual gamers than they're no fans of mine.

However, in all seriousness, I would like to pose the question of So What? The 360 is trying to broaden its audience and get a little money. I know they're copying nintendo, but then again, they make a lot of money, so why not? The game looks bad, but, as I have said before, nobody's forcing you to get it, so why should we care?

I mean, think of it this way: George Lucas made that ****-terrible 3D animated Star Wars cartoon to make some money from a new audience. Does that make The Empire Strikes Back a bad movie? I mean sure, the series sucked, but you didn't HAVE to watch it, nor did you have to accept it as cannon (I hope). It was an attempt to make some decent money and it in no way makes Star Wars worse as a series.

That's pretty much my stance on this, except if you replace all the Star Wars stuff with Xbox 360 stuff.

Ignoring "casual" for now, you're okay with the 360 getting a huge pile of shovelware delivered first class?

If the 360 opens up to a broader audience in the same way (and with the same push and pride) as Nintendo have, you could literally get the exact same ****ty games that came out on the Wii when developers saw the success of Wii Sports, and slap them onto the 360. This "casual" thing is new on the 360, so what's to stop us seeing Smarty Pants of Carnival Games on there?

I'm all for Natal, and honestly, I'd would be great if it was the casual experience. It doesn't look like it's going to be used for "hardcore games for hardcore people", but I don't mind that. However, the problem comes when you start seeing regular 360 games, like this golf game, which has no control improvement at all appearing on the console. If there are going to be casual games, at least keep them attached to the motion control device - the thing that hooked casual players in the first place. Don't spam them onto the system where they do not good.

This is exactly what I'm talking about in my last paragraph. If this golf game is for the 360 and not Natal, it's a complete waste that's no good to anyone. Sure, it's only one game, but if Microsoft are trying to appeal to a broader audience then there will be a lot more. They should keep those titles on Natal.

This is not to say I won't buy Natal. If I buy it knowing I'm going to get a primarily casual experience, I'll know what I'm paying for and I'll be happy. With the Wii, we didn't know anything of this word "casual", so a lot of fans were left upset (and still are.) Thanks to Nintendo indirectly, we know all about it now, so I'd be happy buying a casual Natal experience.

Although there does remain the fact that more developers aim for a higher-quality experience on the 360 than the Wii due to its more powerful technology and ability to go cross-platform with the PS3.

However, there is also the fact that 360 games require a lot more money to develop than Wii games, and I'm not sure how many developers would be willing to cough up all that for shovelware. It goes against the reason they're doing it (to make a quick buck). I have a feeling the Wii's still going to see more shovelspam simply because it's cheaper to develop for, and for the time being, it's more widespread in the casual crusade.

(Although, I'm unsure of exactly how the 360 games are more expensive to develop-- would they be just as cheap if developers made tons of the 360 Sports-like games, with minimal interface and visual detail?)

Well the trouble is, who's going to buy that if they can look at the 360 otherwise and see a bunch of amazing looking games. The Wii's titles almost always have a simple aesthetic, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but developers see it as a chance to put no effort into the design of the games. It'll blend in even if you do that.

Hopefully with the 360, if they try that, it won't work. Again, it would be fine for Natal games since it's most likely what they're aiming for anyway (which is a smart move if they're segregating it into another 'part' of the 360), but if they start coming out as regular console games, I can't see who they appeal to. Nobody wants a simplistic casual [sports] game that uses a regular game controller.

There's a point.
Although it irritates me when almost anyone thinks they can put minimal effort into the visuals and call it a "simplistic style" and get away with absolute garbage (at least Wii Sports doesn't look bad), but most people won't notice the difference on Wii. On 360, it'll stick out like a sore thumb.

Nobody that has a 360 does. I think the fact that the 360 launched as a "hardcore" machine is going to hamper a lot of its casual attempts, especially until Natal comes out. Probably nobody that has a 360 would buy half-assed attempts to make money, whereas lots of people with Nintendo consoles often have little kids at the very least that buy the stuff.

I don't mind the 360 being a "hardcore" machine. If anything that's why I like it. My X360 compliments my Wii and vice versa.

Really, if there are going to be multiple consoles out there, they might as well actually be somewhat different in terms of direction, game library, philosophy, and all that.

Would it be unrelated to bring up 1 vs. 100?

This 360 sports things sounds stupid as hell, but if more casual stuff like 1 vs. 100 will come with it, I welcome this new 'casual' audience.

Well yeah. Ricochet and the painting demo both looked fantastic too (well, it wouldn't be as good on a smaller screen, but whatever.) They're both pretty casual, but by no means crappy. I think this is a good use of the term, instead of it meaning "pile of ****".

The 360 is just as casual as the Wii in the first place, why should we be surprised? Games in general are getting easier and easier, it's very rare to see games that improve on the aspects of past games and actually still be challenging (Demon's Souls), this just happens when more and more people play games and there's nothing we can really do about it aside from hoping for the best.

I have no problems with 360 creating casual games.
I have no problems with 360 making a golf game.
I have a problem with 360 making a casual golf game that looks exactly like a poorly constructed Wii Sports.
