In all seriousness, this is a bit scary because, while Natal is really cool looking and all, I have this fear that in a couple of years we'll see a new set of consoles, and, rather than amping up power, they'll just introduce a new control style.

While Natal seems really cool, and I'd like to see, say, telepathy control, there are a lot of advances in graphics, physics, and AI which need more power behind them than the current consoles offer.

Hopefully, if that does happen, focus will turn to the PC gaming market, but that again is a double edged sword, as it means that use and dependency on Windows will rise...

This is exactly the problem with the Wii. Nintendo may have the upper hand now, but they'll be forced to upgrade to a new system sooner than Sony or Microsoft will.

On-topic, now that people mention the golf doesn't have motion controls, that makes it pretty stupid-- I wonder, what's the point if it just uses the same control scheme as standard golf games (that ancient three-taps bar)?

For the record, a fanboy as I see it generally swears by one side only and is impossible to convince of the legitimacy of the other sides.

This is what makes me, personally, a fan, and not a fanboy.

Well that's my gripe. This might as well be gaming spam. It looks like Wii Sports golf, so it might lure in some casual players. However, if it turn out to be the standard tapping control scheme as you say, they're just going to think "Oh, how do I play this then?"

It's completely useless. Nobody is going to want to play a Wii Sports-like game without Wii Sports-like controls. It doesn't fit into any demographic.

For this entire gen, we've seen huge numbers of the 360/PS3 fanbase ***** out the Wii as a system that's dedicated to casuals and offers nothing for the core gamer. Even as the years go on and the system gets more and more solid titles that are intended for the longtime gamer, many of these fans refuse to acknowledge it as a legitimate gaming console.

It'd be damn funny to see how they'd react if their systems, the ones that they think are the truest and purest platforms for real, hardcore gaming, slowly begin to be used extensively to appeal to that casual market that really enjoys the Wii, and thus have made those dumbass gamers think that the Wii offers nothing of quality.

While the Wii has a lot of great software, it also has the most shovelware out of any of the systems this gen. There are definitely a lot of core and enjoyable games for the system, but as you know some developers are getting the wrong idea and are putting out less-than-average games. That's not the point though. If the 360 (and/or PS3) can continue it's current standards / routines in delivering high quality HD games, having a casual side as well would only benefit them both. However, focusing more on the casual side can only mean that less attention is paid to the current style of gaming for both systems, and would in the end blur all three systems even more and eventually give each console less personality - something which I always love about new console launches.

Sure, it may be funny to see all of the HD console owners going crazy because the consoles are getting flooded with '****ty casual games', but it's not really going to do any good. Aside from a few laughs, it's only going to weaken the quality of games on the platforms.

(Note, this is from a consumer standpoint.)

The thing about shovelware is that it most often goes to the best-selling systems. I mean, it's crap anyway so it's not like it'd perform better on any particular platform.

So with a bit of luck, there might be some pretty good casual games on the HD consoles. But once those games start to sell, in comes "Mama's Super Party" and "Liza's day at the farm".
