Unpossible Possible: Today Wipeout HD Gets Even More Awesome

Earlier this week, we had already gotten the Wipeout HD 2.0 patch which completely overhauled the menus, HUD during racing, and added many more small yet significant features. (I hadn't played since version 1.20, and I was AMAZED at all the new features Sony Liverpool has added since then!)

Today, the second half of the awesome-sauce is brought with the release of Wipeout Fury:


























Wipeout HD was already the best way you could ever spend $20 (it's a full game), and it'll get even better with the $10 Fury hitting later today.

Fury contains many new elements, which you can read here.

Most notably, Fury contains:
-New ship skins
-New ships
-Tweaked ships
-4 New Normal Tracks
-4 Brand new Zone Mode Only tracks, which you can see in the later screens above.
-New Trophies
-Zone Battle Mode, allowing you to race versus competition while in Zone mode.
-Deathmatch mode
-8 New Music Tracks in 5.1
-New Fury Campaign

And of course, much much more.

I've been finishing up the Campaign Mode for HD in the last couple of days getting ready for Fury, and now the time has finally come! I can't wait for the expansion! It should be up on the PSN later today!

Awwwwwww, I thought this had to do with the awesome T.V. show Wipeout.

I could look at this game all day, sexy.

HD > Pure.

HD has been proclaimed the best Wipeout game by people who have played every single game in the series.

The new modes in Fury are awesome, as are the new tracks!! The new Zone tracks are just as funky as they look, and are even Zoney-er then the normal HD tracks.

The graphics are noticeably better in the Fury tracks over HD, but there is also additional screen tearing that has been introduced in the expansion (Screen tearing while showing the Sony Liverpool logo = FAIL, LOL). Luckily, the Wipeout HD team has been really good about patching this gaming and ironing all the bugs out while adding additional features, so this little bit of extra screen tearing will probably be fixed soon enough.

New music is mehcats, IMO. Wipeout HD is all about the custom soundtracks. I also actually prefer the HD menu over the new black Fury menu screen, and after finishing playing tonight, I switched back. The new ships have had their specs bumped up which is really awesome.

And one thing that I feel I didn't explain too well is the new Detonator Mode. Basically, it puts you into Zone mode, where the speed is constantly increasing, but then goes and throws bombs of various types onto the track which you have to shoot at. This results in a Galaga/Asteroid/arcade shooter type of experience where you try to rack up a certain amount of points from the bombs before the race completes or you kill yourself. It's pretty fun.

Supposedly a 109MB patch is up (what did I tell you!) that fixes the tearing. But tearing has still been reported.

Finishing up on Meltdown in normal HD right now... Even on Novice, I'm getting completely killed in any of the race modes. Phantom IS SOOO FAST.

I was going to buy Wipeout because of the $5 off sale but apparently I missed it. I am not huge on arcade racing games, so the discount was needed to sell the game to me. Still, the demo is fun so I am a little disappointed.

I'll be downloading this immediately, but sadly I won't really be able to dive into it for about a week. I can't wait though. The new stuff looks awesome! I love me some Wipeout HD.
