Which has better graphics? Xbox 360 or PS3?

I just want to know which has better graphics. I know it's virtually identical, but there has to be one that's better.

God forbid anyone just answer the question seriously...

Anyway, I believe the PS3 has slightly better graphics on average than the Xbox 360, but the difference is usually barely noticeable. It may also vary from game to game anyway - for instance, in one particular game, the Xbox 360 might have better lighting, but the PS3 better textures.

I apologize on their behalf. They meant that it was a s***ty question.

It depends on game. It seems 360 runs FC2 better, and Prototype is a mixed blow (360 has more stable frame rates but PS3 has some weird, sexy shading)

They're about the same, because the PS3 has some stupid bottlenecks. But for the rare game that is developed exclusively for the PS3, the PS3 actually has the edge. See Killzone, Uncharted, etc. But that hardly happens ever, so whatever.

Big reason why I'm glad Final Fantasy Versus XIII is still exclusive. (Not that it would be a bad thing if it went multiplatform).

The PS3 is, in theory, capable of massively better graphics than the 360.

However, it is harder to develop for, which means that most multi-platform titles won't spend time improving it for the PS3, so the games will look the same.


PS3 exclusives, however, tend to look better than 360 ones.


The PS3 also has an advantage in storage space (50GB vs. 10ish (IIRC)) on it's discs, which again gives developers more freedom when developing exclusives for it.

Remember, the Xbox 360 has unified pipeline technology, it allows pixel shading pipelines to do both vertex and pixel shaders. It thus becomes more efficient, and enables large amounts of polygons and normal/bump/parralax maps and a fast fill rate.
However, the Playstation 3 has more pixel shading capabilities in theory, (the 50 MHZ extra clock speed) but is bottlenecked by fixed pipelines.
Though the PS3 does contain the revolutionary cell processor, which can process graphics.
Those that say PC are not contributing toward discussion. So stop.

Usually PS3 Graphics are better than 360 on PS3-Exclusive games, but if a game has been ported from the 360 to the PS3, it usually looks better on the 360. I have no idea why.

They're both pretty close. But when it comes to movies, the PS3 wins easily. Uhh, that's all i got. Now i'm leaving before the console wars break out.

Different lighting levels really say nothing about graphical quality. I can do exactly the same thing by adjusting the "gamma" slider.

True, but some games use over stauration and do not look particually good. Take a look at Heavenly sword, the graphics are clouded by saturated bloom:

To me it looks like the PS3 is slightly better, as it looks to have slightly more accurate lighting in the first set, but in the second set the lighting quality is pretty identical, but with blurrier textures on the PS3. The exception is GTA, which seems to have blurrier textures on the PS3, but also, worse lighting on the 360.

Of course, you really wouldn't be able to tell the difference unless you were studying side by side screens, so I don't really think it matters much...

In other news: 90% of the games on that list look like **** now, the only exceptions being CoD4, Source, and Assassin's Creed, which only look decent. I think I'm getting ready for a new gaming generation- the first time I saw 360 screens they looked almost realistic to me, but now most of these games have me wondering if they're PS2 ports.

PC has the best graphics, due to having superior hardware compared to both consoles.

Does it really matter?

The real question is "which system fails you faster?"

Personally I believe the Xbox has better graphics because it has pretty much everything they used to make the system in it, and by that I mean the tech that they used to do all the equations to figure out how to make it anyway.
