Which should I get? An Xbox 360 or a PlayStation 3?

As an owner of all 3 current-generation consoles, I'm going to have to say the PS3. Only because you don't want a PC, though.

Ugh, I hate it when people start making complaints about the Wii like these.

Oh please. It isn't THAT horrible. While I admit the WiFi isn't the best it could be, but I've never had too much problems with it. And actually, you can chat online with the Wii if you have that voice chat thing that comes with Animal Crossing: City Folk. Should be available by itself too though.

Do you honestly care so much about graphics? Graphics don't make a game, buddy. I could care less about the Wii's graphics, plus, they look perfectly fine to me.

May I remind you that this is NINTENDO who made the Wii? They're a gaming company, not an electronics corporation like Sony or Microsoft. It's obvious that Nintendo would not and can not include a DVD/Blu-Ray player in their consoles.

5. Doesn't hold any type of media except with the Photo Channel.

This I don't care about. I can't really imagine a real gamer using those much anyway, but meh.

6. No hard drive. Have to use it's internal memory and SD cards.

Oh boo hoo. It isn't hard to use an SD card. Plus, I hear Nintendo is out to solve the storage problem anyway.

7. The games are SO freaking epic in every way on those systems. The online play, the gameplay, the graphics, every single thing!

What a fanboy you are. If you wanted really good graphics, something to play a movie or CD on, why'd you even get a Wii in the first place? Sounds like you just wasted your money on it.

Personally, I love the Wii. I don't care if it doesn't have perfect graphics or any of the other junk Sony and Microsoft stuff into their consoles. But if you want to get either a 360 or PS3, I'd go for the 360. It's less expensive, and I've heard better feedback about it than the PS3.

That is already fixed.

I'd say a PS3. I don't have one, I have a Wii/360, but I'm really wanting a PS3 because of some games that are being released on it. Overall I think it's a better console, but that's my opinion, and it doesn't count for much since I've never owned one.

You guys seem to forget, a PC with the ability to play those types of games EASILY costs $1000, and that's double the cost of a PS3.

I'd go for a PS3 if I were you.

Sony have put out some of the best games of recent years, and it looks like that trend'll be continuing for a while yet.

As Mr. Wonderful posted earlier though, I'd wait a little while to see if there'll be a cheaper version of the PS3 released any time soon.

The Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 have unified online gaming networks. You can keep freinds and never have to add them again via freind codes. This was inplemented last generation so on Wii terms this is a ridiculous disapointment. And the voice chat is not limited to specific games.

The Wii's graphics are far behind this generation. It has a pixel fillrate almost half of the Playstation 3, no programable pipelines, only 12 MB of 32-bit texture memory, and a pretty low overall polygon count. Most Wii games don't even look as good as Xbox games, take a look at the chronicles of Riddick: escape from butcher bay and Conker: Live and reloaded.
Graphics can enchance a game, take Littlebigplanet for example, a game where one can very naturally manipulate objects to create levels and experiments. You could just as easily manipulate cartoon objects, but why not manipulate photorealistic objects?

Then why add a photo channel? Nintendo could easily have allowed DVD playback. It would have been a costless addition. And you can't change someone's opinion like that; if someone is disapointed in that there isn't a DVD player in there Wii than they hold the right to be disapointed, considering how the Xbox and playstation 2 already had them. (Though the Xbox required an add on, it was at least officially released)

Then why not include a hard drive from the start? Hard drives are cost efficient and much better to use than buying poxy 2 GB SD cards. Having a HDD also allows larger downloads. PSN games can be as large as 4 GB in size.

The Wii is one of the biggest disapointment in the entire history of video game console (The first probably being the Atari 5200) it has gimmicky ideas and no solid backing. Games don't need wagglemotes, they need to evolve. They need unified pipelines and Cell processors, unified online gaming and large data mediums. The playstation 3 and Xbox 360 are fantastic evolutions from the old and long forgotten mediums of playing games. They are the true revolution.

Guys, this is meant to be a discussion on the merits of the PS3 and the Xbox 360, not the Wii...

Get the one you want to get. If we can rewind time, preferably don't make a thread to gloat "lol I have some money to buy a console".

The 360 is basically a PC but with paid online. The PS3 is basically a PC but with fewer games and inferior online.

They're both as close to PCs as you get, for ****'s sake. If you want a console for games and you don't want a Wii, you're better off getting a PC than anything. If you want other options like media, then I suppose you ought to get a PS3 for its blu-ray.

Note: the section above is just me being a dick. I prefer the XBox but each to his own.

Get the 360. It has most of the games the PS3 has, but it has better exclusives. I've only had to buy one PS3.

Plus the Graphics on the 360 make everything look like shiny plastic/glass, PS3 looks smoother and more realistic. Prototype for example... concrete/clothing on 360 = Glossy... concrete/clothing on PS3 = rough textured like real concrete/clothing.

If you wasnt free online, get the PS3. On the other hand, if you want a decent controller, get the 360.

Ironically, mr ThaCoBRA, or now dubbed "Fanboy that doesn't do research"...

Prototype is rendered at 1120 by 640 pixels, with QAA (quincunx anti-aliasing) on the PS3 and 2xMSAA (multisample anti-aliasing) on the Xbox 360. Despite these performance difference, the PS3 does have a one-up on both the Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game. Surprisingly all debris on the ground is individually shadow-mapped in the PS3 game. This provides more depth for ground textures and creates a very impressive image for an open-world game.

You should really start being more open-minded when it comes to consoles, seriously. Your PS3 obsessiveness is at soaringly high levels.

The "PS3 has better graphics than the 360" argument is honestly so invalid because you'd barely see the difference between both even if you were to focus your eyes on the screen and pretend you're playing Resident Evil 5.

Not only that, but, in my opinion the hardware architecture in the 360 is slightly better than the PS3's setup because the Xenon has much better conditional branch prediction than the Cell, thus, operations which require a lot of branching (such as AI) take less clocks to process.
