Valkyria Chronicles 2 Announced For PSP

HAHAHAHAHAHA. And I just sold the original game.

Announced in the newest issue of Japanese game magazine Famitsu, the game is set in 1937, two years after the first game. Cadets from the Gaul Royal Military Academy are sent to suppress an insurrection in the southern part of in-game country Gaul.

The game’s central concept is contrasting the world of the military academy with war. Valkyria Chronicles 2 is due out this winter in Japan.

Can't say I'm incredibly surprised that they switched to a different system with a higher install base and lower development costs, just a shame that it's one I don't own.

Kind of disappointing, but yeah, the PSP is on a role.

This gives Valkyria 2 a gameplay style not unlike what we've seen in Atlus's Persona series. The game uses the same battle system as before, mixing behind-the-shoulder action with sim-like strategic gameplay as it guides you through a series of missions. You're controlling a bunch of military cadets, though, so much of the game's story is told through your life in and around the school -- perhaps giving Valkyria 2 a bit of a Japanese "school life simulator" touch, although details are still scant. There are several times more missions than in the first Valkyria, and a great deal more customization is possible in this game, both to your fighters and to the vehicles and tanks they have at their disposal.

That actually lowers my expectations.

The original game had a ludicrously lax military, a school simulator will just make that so much worse...
