Re: The Fire Emblem Thread Returns

Well, all I have is a DS lite, so that limits my options to only a few games.

I'll see if I can get my hands on a copy of the GBA version.

You don't have a GC or a Wii? :/ PoR is a GC game.

Get it. FE 7 is the best intro to the series, mainly 'cause it's so good. I might have given up on the series if I started with 8 or 10 (along with 11 for worst FE games).

7 is by far the best western game.

If it had a way to save mid-battle (preferably like Shadow Dragon's save points), it would have been perfect.

I pointed to Leonri's post to show what opinion I was disagreeing with. My post was primarily directed to Sailboat.

But after that it gets harder. PoR is the better choice if you don't want to start with something hard, but want to start with something that has tutorials.

RD also has tutorials, but they're rather more advanced, plus the game is the hardest one I've played so far, imo(and I've played all of the ones released outside of Japan).
No. Start with Fire Emblem Blazing Sword (FE7). PoR isnt the best starter game. sure it has tutorials but its better to learn that series without training wheels. FE7 has a lot of chapters if you go Hector's route. Yeah you gotta play Eliwood mode first to get Hector mode but its worth it. All the standard classes of the series are in that game. PoR does not have shamans and only one light magic user. I found that lame. PoR is shorter and easier but lacks in some areas. That story doesnt begin getting immersive until RD and that one is a bad one to start with. Its a direct sequel and should be treated as such. FE7's Lyn mode is a tutorial in itself and the hand holding ends after her mode ends. PoR's easy mode is generally holding your hand throughout the entire game.

He can't start with PoR anyway, Florina.

And please don't just say no to my posts. I feel offended now. But personally, I didn't like having my hand held through a lord's entire story in FE7, to be honest. That's one thing that makes me like this game less than FE9 and FE10.

EDIT: Oh, and I didn't feel like my hand was being held at all in FE9. :/

Think about this way. Time and time again, you've been in the minority. The majority prefer 7. Therefore newcomers are more likely to enjoy 7. So, for there sake, it's better to recommend them that game.

I personally love a lot of bands that are pretty unpopular. Do I recommend them to friends? No, I talk about the more popular bands evem if I don't particularly like them. It's the conscientious thing to do.

Something to ponder on.

Re: The Fire Emblem Thread Returns

I don't see what's so great about 7 except for the fact that you're a character in the game. Lyn's story wasn't that great because the only reason it seemed to be there was for tutorial purposes. I didn't actually start to truly enjoy it until Eliwood's story began. I also don't like Hector. Lyn was okay, even though her story held your hand the entire time.

This feels like an echo in the room that took a few weeks to come back.

Yes...? It's not like Lyn ceases to exist after her set of chapters.
Also, FE10's first set of chapters felt like the hand-holding variety as well.

Good thing Lyn's is only 10 short chapters long whereas Eliwood's is almost 20 (not counting gaiden chapters).

I didn't feel like my hand was held in either of Ike's games. And I'm still not enjoying 7 nearly as much as I did 9 and 10.

Which is fine, but when the majority likes one thing, you need to stop trying to contradict them at every possible opportunity. If someone's looking for a recommendation, and a lot of people say one thing, they're most likely going to give that a shot first. Nothing you can do about it.

We don't care what you think, Ranny. The rest of us seem to like FE7 much more than RD, and we think it's the better game to start with.

Whatever. Like I said, I don't see how FE7 is very good. I thought it was mostly rather boring so far. I only like Eliwood's story right now.

Btw, last time I made an FE poll for the games, RD had more votes than 7. Pretty contradicting to what y'all are saying, huh?
