Why I feel recent games aren't as good

The people has spoken; new isn't "good" anymore. Once upon a time it may have been, when innovation was key to success, but look at this E3 - which game was most praised? Uncharted 2. The game friggin' feels like a blockbuster movie, and I feel that I've seen this before in a film somewhere. Otherwise it seems to be pretty much what Uncharted was with some nice tweaks to it, and that's great stuff, but it's nothing we haven't seen before in some shape or form. At least Scribblenauts is getting some recognition too, though.

Also, big sea monster =/= massive scale. Massive scale would be something like Elder Scrolls.

I mean dynamically rendered things in scale, like Shadow of the colossus.

It doesn't matter if it's something that looks big in a game, it doesn't mean that it has massive scale. It's just like any other FPS but in third person. Plus, it doesn't matter if you hate Elder Scrolls, they're much more massive games compared to Gears of War, by far. No matter how you put it, Gears of War isn't a game with massive scale.

While I'd agree with this, I'd like to point out that you can't go the other way. Wii developers can't wank the fact they may have amazing gameplay, then cry foul when they only get 80%. Sure, the gameplay may have been kicking, but you do need good graphics/story/music/scenario for all the other 20%. Gameplay makes up the beef of the burger, but a good burger damn well needs mustard and tomato sauce, too.

The problem is this.

You've all played Spiderman for the N64 or PS1.

So of course nothing will be able to compete with that disc/cartridge of awesome.

I'd rather have a ten burgers without mustard and tomato sauce than ten sachets of mustard and tomato sauce. That's obviously if you go extreme, but generally speaking, gameplay from this gen is lacking somewhat.

I find that to be the solution, not the problem.

Explain.

Just because a console has better technology does not mean your game has to max out the system. It's also cheaper to develop, say, a last gen/Wii looking game on the 360 because of the more abundant resources.

I honestly don't know what to say. For all of my life Gaming has been my second major hobby, but as of late I have felt a little tired of it.

The only games I have bought since I bought my Wii are: TP, SMG, SSBB. Thats it, nothing else. Nothing else appeals, and when it actually does, I read a review finding out there its not as good as its prequel (looking at you MP3), or something like that. So I don't bother wasting $100 on these sadly overpriced games. Instead my friend gave me his FFVII PC copy and in the last week or two I've been having a whole lot of fun with that and at the moment, I would enjoy that more than any other game on the Wii. As for getting an Xbox36 or PS3... 360 doesn't have a variety of games I would enjoy. Best games? Gears of War, Mass Effect, Halo3 etc? It has ToV, but then I could just get a PS3 and get ToV + FFXIII + FFXIV. But I'm not even sure if its worth getting FFXIII... its all technological... reminds me of Star Wars though. Or I was thinking of just upgrading my Graphics card on my PC to one of the latest modern ones at the moment, at around the start of next year and games like Diablo III look interesting and quite appealing. If I upgraded the card it would also mean I could play FFXIV but I would probably have to pay monthly subscriptions or something. But the reason why I want to get those FFs because they will probably have really good stories, as well as the graphics, and after playing FFVII I its left me wanting more and more from the FF universe (95% story complete I think).

EDIT: Well if the problem with the industry is that it is focusing on visuals and not on innovation and Nintendo are known to lead the way in innovation - then I expect Zelda Wii to be a massive step in innovation. (but who knows?) So maybe I should just stick with Wii Zelda =(

MP3 was the best game in the Prime series.

They should just make a game with an outstanding plot and outstanding gameplay.
It doesn't matter too much about the graphics... although it would be nice!
