which one do you like the best

I've played some Resident Evil. I couldn't get into it.

Left 4 Dead is fun despite it's low replay value which I hear Resident Evil is full of.

If you're a friendless shut-in, go for RE.

If you have a decent PC and some friends, get Left 4 Dead.

I personally will have to say L4D, as it's the onlyone I've played.

I can't really compare the two to say which I like more; they really are different beasts. L4D can be fun, and its all about team work, an action game with zombies really, whereas the RE series(even 5 to an extent) have an actual horror vibe going for them. L4D may have horror like settings, but never really has the horror experience, at least in my opinion.

so as an action game my vote goes for L4D
for survival horror(series roots, not so much the newer ones) my vote goes to RE.

Depends what you're going for.

If it's single-player, then definitely Resident Evil. Superior graphics, storyline, bosses, music, weapons, and pretty much gameplay in general.

It it's multiplayer, then Left 4 Dead. Even with RE5's implemented co-op, it still doesn't really stack when compared to how much fun you'll have with L4D.

L4D also has tons of replay value. Whereas with RE, you're usually satisfied with the game after beating it two to three times.

Resident Evil 1-4 and all the remakes are easily the best for single player experiences. Left 4 Dead is the best for playing with friends and giving you that satisfying feeling of smashing a zombie's face off.

I don't really want to bring RE5 into this. I played it for well over a month after it released trying to tell myself that it's better than my gut was saying. It really isn't.. I don't think it deserves the Resident Evil title; Gears of War : Africa edition sounds more like it.

RE4 > L4D > RE5

RE4 and RE5 being the only Resident Evil games I've played and I've only just begun to play left 4 dead. I feel though, that I might tire quickly of the repetitivness of l4d.

RE4 was rockin'. I mean, it had a castle. Castles are pretty darn sparky, especially when they're wrought with such craftmanship.

RE5 wasn't doing it for me. Sure, it was fun playin' co-op but it felt too much like capcom where too scared to stray from their proven formula, not unlike some other game developers....

People aren't supposed to move like tanks.

Is this a serious question? Resident Evil and L4D are on two completely different playing fields. Resident Evil is far superior.
Resident Evil has a good storyline. It's creepy (0-CV). It's got that awesome installment called Resident Evil 4. RE 5 was pretty cool and lots of fun with a friend
I got bored with L4D within the first hour.
The fact that RE isn't an FPS probably turns alot of people off. And the tank controls too. Screw em' I like those to aspects of the game.

By not having a story at all? That was one of the weakest aspects of L4D for me.

As for your bolded sentence, that's just capcom being capcom. They've never really had amazing dialog. I think they just wanted you to know they ya know, weren't zombies.

As for the zombies in L4D, they're more of a 28 days later type of infected.

As I said before, L4D is mainly an action game with 0 horror in it. I swear RE5 had more jump scares in it than L4D had.

There was some story, just not very much.

Exactly. And the dialog is a huge part of the story.

As I said before, L4D is mainly an action game with 0 horror in it. I swear RE5 had more jump scares in it than L4D had.

Having stuff jump out at you does not equal horror. It equals really boring, really cheap and uninspired scare tactics. RE1 actually did this pretty well, as it was more of a psychological horror, but after that they just got jumpier and jumpier.

L4D isn't really meant to scare as it's not really a horror as much as it's a satire of generic thriller horror.

Yes, Capcom loves to cut the cheesy lines every once in a while. Oh well, it doesn't affect the story of the game.
And the fact that L4D had no story at all really turned me off. That was so lame of Valve to do that. Aw well, it was more about the gameplay anyway.

RE is very campy the way it was originally meant to be, I mean look at the name "Resident evil". It has such a B horror ring to it that just goes so well with the actors and dialog the first and second games used.

Its why I called them jump scares, they just make you a little startled, nothing more. The horror from old RE games came from actual survival. Limited ammo created the situation of constant alertness, not knowing if you were prepared to survive the next encounter, or if would be better to just run.

I guess I can understand this, I guess thats why I don't get the comparison in this thread.

yeah, Resident Evil is the bee's knees for single player, while I'd take L4D on multiplayer.

Resident Evil by far. I got bored of L4D after one day of playing it.
