Arrow Star Fox Fans! Opinions on StarFox Command...

I haven't noticed another thread about this...
Ok so I've been in love with the Star Fox games since the SNES...
But was anyone else disappointed in Star Fox Command for the DS? The storyline was shallow and the gameplay was OK once you got used to it...But it just didn't have the same satisfaction that you'd get playing the Starfox64 or StarFox Assault...It just felt like the game just kinda ended out of nowhere...
So, post your opinions here!

Re: Star Fox Fans! Opinions on StarFox Command...

I didn't like the gameplay very much. The flying was fine and so was the multiplayer, but I didn't like having to draw a path and randomly run into enemies, not to mention you couldn't draw the path very far.

Re: Star Fox Fans! Opinions on StarFox Command...

It was even worse than Assault. The truth is, Fox was actually killed in a bizzarre gardening accident shortly after StarFox 64. As a replacement, Nintendo hired Fox's twin brother, Lameass McCloud. Since Lameass had failed his pilots test and couldn't get a license, they had the brillaint idea of replacing all the cool flying with bad on foot segments with horrible controls and a bad camera. The rest is history.

Re: Star Fox Fans! Opinions on StarFox Command...

I liked it, it was a pretty solid Star Fox games. The story was a bit meh, but I liked the multiple path thing they were doing and there are a nice variety of ships that could be used on the overworld map - such as which ships are better at blowing missilsed up.

Of course, gameplay was repetetive so they could've done much better on that part. Overall the game is far better than Assault which was a piece of **** IMO.

Yes, but it felt more like a halfassed zelda game than a StarFox game. Except for the flying tages in between dungeons, there was nothing ramotely familiar about it.

Re: Star Fox Fans! Opinions on StarFox Command...

To be honest, I've only really played 64 and Command, so I can't really say anything about Assault and Adventure etc.

64 was amazing. The levels were really well designed, it kept on throwing new stuff at you and in the harder levels you really were on edge.

Whereas Command was one of the most repetitve gaming experiences I have ever seen. Every battle seems the exact same thing with a different skin, maybe slightly different patterns. The whole tactics thing and separate routes was well done, I really liked that, but the combat is just way too repetitive.

At least it didn't include any clunky ground missions like Assault did.

Yeah I think Nintendo over did it a bit adding all those ground missions, one or two is fine...But I missed flying more in that game.
But as for Command, the actual 'commanding' part was neat, but the actual mini-missions were definietly repetitive...

Re: Star Fox Fans! Opinions on StarFox Command...

Command was a step in the right direction, I mean it's Starfox, flying should be the focus. This is an example of a series that just innovated too much. If they just made Starfox 64 with new levels I would be perfectly happy.

starwing and lylat wars are amazing game's. I still remember all those broken wings in hard mode.
Adventure was meh. Assualt was better, but still not as good as the first 2. Only played command for a few minutes.

Re: Star Fox Fans! Opinions on StarFox Command...

You see, Nintendo never considered taking the Star Fox franchise in a non-linear direction, which would probably be the right path for the series to take. Imagine being able to freely fly across the Lylat System, stopping at particular planets/asteroids/space stations to accept missions and upgrade your arwing. Imagine having several semi-branching primary story missions, with plenty of sidequests in-between to accept.

Dude, you're basically directly describing Escape Velocity, only with the Starfox name on it.

You should check it out, though, it's pretty good and definitely what you're looking for. Just with a different story. And, ummm, 2-d gameplay.

If they ever made it in 3-d, THEN you'd definitely have the same thing going on.

But still, check it out.

It would ultimately depend on what type of RPG it would be, of course. I really couldn't see the game working as a JRPG, but something more like Mass Effect (A primary mission structure with plenty of sidequests in-between and a focus on exploration) could work quite well.

Re: Star Fox Fans! Opinions on StarFox Command...

I preorderd this game when it was released because I was a huge fan of starfox 64. Overall, I enjoyed the game. The controls were fun and the online was even fun for the few times I tried it. I was excpeting something a little better and this was the only game I had prepaid and eventually sold.

Re: Star Fox Fans! Opinions on StarFox Command...

SFC was pretty good, I played as Wolf (obviously) and enjoyed it, it is not without it's fair share of ****.

Blah blah blah repetitive blah blah blah boring.

thing is, star fox series has really gone downhill from after 64/Lylat wars. not a good decision, nintendo, killing one of your iconic franchises.

Star Fox RPG sounds cool, been thinking of a SF game like that, only with Wolf as the main character.

Well maybe there's still hope for the series, since there's rumor that a new Star Fox game will be for Wii.
Maybe the tides will turn again.
