Core, Classic or Expanded?

Which one are you?

In some industries, especially videogames, there are generally three types of audience - The Core, the Classic, and the Expanded audience.

The "undershot" Core audience:
-Generally call themselves the "hardcore", which is a nonexistent word.
-Generally the hardest to please (hence, "undershot")
-Generally appreciate least the values of the Wii (innovative game control) and appreciate most the values of the HD twins (technological achievement, multi-purpose), NOT meant to say anything about console preference.
-Often, the least open-minded

The "overshot" Classic audience:
-The "retro" or "lapsed" gamers.
-Feel like gaming in general has left them behind one way or another (e.g. not enough 2d games) in its quest for technological and graphical superiority (hence, "overshot")
-Sometimes prefer older-styled games to newer ones, e.g. prefer NSMBW over SMG2.

The "non-consumer" Expanded audience:
-The nonexistent "Casual" or "Non-gamer" stereotype.
-"Casual" only refers to amount of time they spend gaming, as some "casuals" like to play core games.
-"Casual" =/= non-gamer.
-"Non gamers" are your ordinary everyday people who had barely known anything about videogames before.
-Generally the most open-minded.

Myself, I'm not completely sure. I would probably put myself as some sort of a freak hybrid of Core and Expanded audience. I play core games exclusively, but my routine is somewhat like an Expanded audience gamer since I am so busy all the time.

But I'm gonna be sadistic and not let you choose hybrids.

Where is the "elitist fag" option? Because I'm fairly sure I fit in that one.

I'm more of a core gamer than anything. But retro is really close. I really enjoy playing old games (10 years of more) and find them a lot of fun. But at the same time I love modern games. Either way I spend most of my time on games or running. With hip surgery keeping me from running for a while gaming can only go up

This. I'll play a good game regardless of the genre or system.

I consider myself hardcore though, as gaming is my major hobby.

Yes, it is. It's whatever you want it to be.

core audience is harder to spell though
it means the same thing to me. In both terms it's a person who spends a good 30-40+ hours a week playing video games in some way shape or form. I fit that bill to a T.

Dumb options. I'm with Raunm in that I play good games, and with Alex in that I don't fit into the "hardXcore, retro and casualol" categories.

I play lots of RPGs, a fair few shooters and lots of the better games that are on the Wii. I've also been playing a lot of XBLA games recently. They're getting amazing for how much content you get for 800 points each.

I think the problem with your poll is with the labels you've added. If you left it as "Core, Retro, Expanded" or something, it mightn't make it look like "lol im no casual noob im hardcore!!1 my mom lets mep lay hallo".

This is ridiculous, you're just continuing to feed unhelpful stereotypes in an attempt to needlessly classify people. Why is this necessary? I play games that I enjoy.

I guess maybe retro, though I usually use the term 'hardcore' to describe what you call 'retro' gamers, 'casual' to describe what you call 'core', and 'non-gamer' to describe what you call 'casual'.

They're really just being used as buzzwords now, however, I use the terms to draw distinction between people who play lots of games, don't play games all that often, and play Haloz with their frat.

Anyway, Double A, if you want to classify me....

I really enjoying platformers, adventure games, and rougelikes. Some of my favorite games include Zelda: ALttP, Super Mario Galaxy, Zork, Nethack, Portal, Knytt Stories, and Within a Deep Forest.

I'm a Classic Expanded Core kind of guy.

I don't play as much as a perhaps the most, I do like old games and enjoy both GTA4 and Wii Sports.
