Nintendo ready to bring out Wii HD

It's safe to say that everyone has a little something planned for the NEXT next generation, but I don't suppose we have to worry about buying more systems soon. Still, Iwata told Bloomberg that once developers begin to say that improvements to games can no longer be made for Wii, then the Big N will be ready to bring out its next console. The man also added “None of our developers is making that kind of complaint.”

HD as in hard drive, or High definition?

High Definition, as Hard Drive is generally shortened to HDD.

With Microsoft recently announcing they will have the 360 out for 10 years, I think Nintendo will make a new console ahead of its competitors for the first time in history. The Wii will look more underpowered than its competition when HD is more of a norm and Sony and Microsoft start getting the hang of motion controls. I would predict 2012 as the year we hear about or get a new console from them.

Amazing. Truly amazing. Nintendo, next time, don't wait until the last second OR you can go up and beyond and go Blu-Ray.

Remember: Without HD, Nintendo has an advantage over its competitors, the fact that games are far cheaper to develop on the Wii. With HD, they lose that advantage and all of a sudden developers have absolutely no reason to develop for Nintendo's console.

This logic applies to the DS as well.

That's possibly the dumbest logic that I have ever heard. A good game takes time to develop, weather it is in HD or not, which seems to be a lesson that most Wii developers are just starting to learn.

Who said that the cost required to develop a game has to be proportional to the time taken to develop it? All I said that developers would have far less of a reason to develop for the Wii if it were more expensive to do so.

Changing resolution from 640/720x480 to 1280x720 isn't expensive, considering it's a simple variable.

Kotaku makes a good point:

Let's see, Japanese analog broadcasts stop in 2011, so we're betting sometime before then.

They'd be stupid not to release an HD console before then, so I fully expect a new SKU from Nintendo within the next couple years, whether it's just a relaunched Wii with HD or a new system entirely.

Well, Wii seems to have a lot of shovel ware. Maybe it is because developers know the Wii isn't very powerful, so they lower their standards on making the game. HD would force the developers to take Wii as a real system rather than a gimmic peice of crap that they can get away with crappy games on.

Yeah. Isn't Japan going all HD with their digital conversion, too?

Would be sweet if the US did that with their conversion too.

So how come developers don't have far less of a reason to develop for the 360 and triple than the wii?
