Final Fantasy XIV Announced! PS3 Exclusive!

Just happened at Sony's conference.

Thoughts?

Edit: Forgot to mention: Coming 2010.

I'm buying a PS3 now.

EDIT: I'm hoping for a price drop.

I already have a PS3. Glad to see they have a exclusive game for once.

I am going to buy it.

Bring out XIII first, which has been teasing us for like, three years. Then I'll be interested.

It's Project Rapture and it's coming in 2010, Jeff.

Still lame. All this does is hinder XIII's hype. It's completely unnecessary.

Isn't it announced as a MMO? not sure if I'm excited about that, will see.

Yup. It's Project Rapture.

They've been working on Project Rapture since like, 2005 so yeah, it's about as old as FFXIII.

I hope it plays a little better than XI. I played that game for about 6 month and it was really, really slow. Still, I'm glad this is coming out, I can't wait.

This has the benefit of coming out after World of Warcraft. You have to remember that when FFXI was released, its main inspiration was EverQuest. They've no doubt learned quite a bit since then.

Can't wait! This was the biggest software surprise of E3, by far.

I'm going to try it at least, never got a chance at XI. This will most likely be alot better.

Meh I'm not into MMOs tbqh. But we'll see how this one goes I suppose. I should've known it was online only when it was announced this close to XIII. =/

I was excited by the trailer at first; the return to the traditional medieval style was nice, and Leviathan in particular got me going.

The next thing I noted was the poor, generic character design, which was countered somewhat by the next point, only to leave a second disappointment...

Online? Not sure about this... I far prefer the single player aspect of Final Fantasy.

Honestly, that was the megaton of e3 as far as I was concerned; as soon as he said FFXIV, and I could have sworn he was a) joking or b) mistaken, my heart lept out of it's skin and made bloody mess on my moniter. Even though I'm not too excited about the game, oddly enough.

I'm so happy I could cry.

Is this why XIII is taking so long to come out?

I'm somewhere between amazed, skeptic, and WTF. I do not generally like MMO's, and XI wasn't that great. Still, if Square has learned from the mistakes and made the online subscription free, I might get it.

You wouldn't pay a subscription even if it's good?

Well, it is going to be on the PS3, and the online capabilities on the PS3 are free, so I'm assuming it'll be that way.

It would have to be extremely good if there were subscriptions. What I like about Sony's and even Nintendo's online services is that I only pay for downloadable stuff. I'm cheap like that.
