Final Fantasy XIV Announced! PS3 Exclusive!

Well in XI say you have one character who starts off as a Black Mage. You can level that up, then change to another job and level that up, so you can level up multiple jobs on a single character. Then you can unlock loads of other jobs like Dark Knight and Summoner through side quests. Then you can have a sub job as well as your main job, for example Black Mage / White Mage. However, your sub job was always capped at half of your main jobs level. Example, 40 BLM and 50WHM - if you have BLM as your main job it would be 40BLM/20WHM, even though your WHM lvl is higher.

Anyway, they said they were changing things up in XIV, so you don't really to familiarize yourself too much with this. They seem to be putting a big emphasis on weapon growth though. Something to do with a big wheel or something.

It'll be fun to find out what they mean be weapon growth as well. Maybe abilities or bonuses you have to unlock for each weapon?

Anyways - I look forward to getting more information about this.

Oh, I'm very excited. Never been much into MMORPGS; a little Diablo 2 here, a little World of Warcraft there. However, this has defiantly piqued my interest. Partly, yes, because it's Final Fantasy, but on the other hand a lot of the details released so far give me hope as to the quality of this game.

Maybe it'll be like FFII's growth system. If you used it right, it was an amazing system that required almost no grinding at all. Your stat boosts were determined on entirely what happened to you in battle. If you ever fight an extremely difficult enemy that you barely survive the fight with, your stats would increase dramatically. Just going into an area with difficult enemies, you'll notice that it gets easier after every battle since your stats increase after every battle, not just after leveling. Albeit, they increase in smaller and smaller amounts, the easier you find the enemy, until they just stop growing at all.......unless you grind like a dumbass and let them hit you a lot, or hit yourself, just to get extra stats that you don't need, or that you could get easily in the next area.

I'll be honest, I didn't like final fantasy 2's leveling system at all. I think the leveling system will be something completely new. I have a feeling that you will be able to level up your weapons, kind of like in some RPG's, particularly the mana series where you gain weapon levels. However, I think that the weapons may literally evolve in a sense. As in, if you use a certain weapon alot, or in a certain way, it will level differently.

for example, lets say you have a sword, And you block 100 attacks, your sword could level up and increase your deffense. OR...for example, if you cast lots of fire magic, you can increase your resistance to fire damage. However, the catch is, each weapon has a limit, and eventually you need to buy new more powerful weapons to continue to become more powerful. This is completely specualtion and is likely to be untrue, but I think it would be an interesting concept to say the least.

So a little bit like the Crystal Chronicles EoT system, where your armor and weapons would level and get more effective, until they maxed out, at which point you could buy new equipment which was weaker, but would level to be stronger in the long run?

yeah, like that. At least that's the vibe I'm getting from this whole weapons will be important and wheel thingy that is being talked about.

I was thinking it might be like FFIX, or the Tactics series where all of your abilities are learned from weapons. Making it important to use weapons, and change weapons, even if that weapon isn't any stronger, in order to learn new abilities.

LOLOL. It's a shame my German isn't anywhere near that level and I'm at the top of England. But it's great that they're hiring for this. I can't wait.

They're also in talks with MS about getting it on the 360, I believe; although they haven't come to an agreement quite yet, it's safe to say that they weren't being serious about its exclusivity.

Sony aren't going to like that very much, especially with the emphasis they put on that during E3.

Nah, we already know it's coming.

It'd be cool if the 360 got this game, but honestly, you're asking for a good old RRoD if you're going to play an MMO on it. I got it twice on the 360 because it was on for too long whilst playing XI, so I switched over to the PC version. The PS3 can probably handle it well, as will the PC, but I'm not counting on the 360 doing so good.
