New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Thoughts and opinions?

I think it looks decent, I'm hoping it'll help tide me over to next year's E3. In which, they'll ignore LoZ again

It looks good. Hopefully better than the original New Super Mario Bros.

Re: New Super Mario Bros. Wii

I'm really liking Nintendo's strategy of souping up their previous IPs. It lets them focus more on making the IP into an experience. That said, I'm also liking how similar this is to the original for DS, for that reason. Don't fix what ain't broken.

I love the multiplayers aspect, which mixes rivalry and co-operation.

Very nice.

Re: New Super Mario Bros. Wii

I'm actually much more excited for this than Galaxy 2, but I've already said that a couple of times.

Mario has always been at its strongest when it was side-scrolling. Sure, 64, Sunshine and Galaxy were all really good games, but compared to the NES, SNES and GB/C games, they become like small ants, trying to achieve the awesomeness that was captured in the series' past.

New Super Mario Bros. was above all a beacon of light: That Mario might once again see his days of glory, although it was admittedly rather lacking. So here's to hoping that this one will fix the errors that game had!

I like the multiplayer aspect alot, my cousins spend alot of time at my house and we're all gamers, so it'll be alot of fun to jump in and out of Mario Bros.

Re: New Super Mario Bros. Wii

I'll have to see more of the game, but based on the Nintendo conference, it does not look like it's worth a $50 price tag. NSMB wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't as good as the original series of Mario Bros. games.

I was hoping this game would be like the 2D parts in Super Mario Galaxy, which seem far more inspired, colorful, and fun.

About time Mario is going back to his roots. Sure NSMB for the DS was good, but it just wasn't enough on its own.

Looks to me like it will be a good party game to add to the collection. I wonder what kind of other new suits they've come up with besides the propeller suit. Hopefully something spiffy. But then again I still love having a raccoon tail...

As Kee said, $50 will be a lot for this game. But I'll pay it.

A couple of hours ago, I stated this in the Super Mario Galaxy 2 thread: originality counts; anyone can rehash an old formula.

"Don't fix what ain't broken" is just a ridiculous argument for making a direct sequel or re-using the formula from a predecessor, and you know this.

Well you have to remember, it's a Wii game. They could pack A LOT of content into it.

Majora's Mask, my favorite video game of all time, was a recycled engine from a predecessor. I know exactly what the potential for this kind of game can be, believe me.

It still seems better suited for WiiWare or DS to me.

If it were a PS3 game they culd pack EVEN more .
/Troll.
I wonder how multiplayer will affect the level design, I'd like to see parts like how Mario rode on a wiggler in the first one.

While I agree, there is the possibility it will be a massive game with more levels than we can imagine.

I'd probably explode if it had like 200 levels.

Re: New Super Mario Bros. Wii

The demonstration was mediocre, but this trailer changed my mind.

Looks great. I'd prefer they price it at $39.99, but I'll buy it either way.

You know, I wish they'd just drop on stage demonstrations in general, or at least limit them to Wii sports. They're never flattering for the product or the people playing the product.

A sidescrolling Mario adventure that can be played by up to four people at once?

Oh you bet I'm gonna buy this.
