Super Mario Galaxy 2 Announced

Just a few moments ago at Nintendo's conference.

Thoughts?

My thoughts were "YES YOSHI".

I guess this will be the Super Mario World of the Wii. :3

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2 Announced

First thought: AWESOME! Yoshi!

Second thought: How different is it from SMG? It seemed quite similar. How long is it? I hope it isn't just a few levels they left out of the original SMG.

If I was wearing a Vitality Sensor when I first saw that trailer, it would break from the overload of joy.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2 Announced

As long as it shows the amount of creativity that Galaxy did, no problem. Including Yoshi and some new powerups should let them mix the game up a lot, it's EAD tokyo so I'm optimistic.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2 Announced

Indifferent.

As much as I loved the original Super Mario Galaxy, this just looks exactly the same to me, except that they slapped a "2" at the end of the title. The console Mario games all have notable upgrades from their predecessors, but this looks more like a quick cash-in to me -- especially after announcing it only a year after the original Super Mario Galaxy.

Originality counts; anyone can take an old formula and rehash it.

Super Mario World was a rehash, outside of its graphics it is just SMB3 with different powerups and floatier physics, prove me wrong.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2 Announced

Eh, I'm more interested in NSMB Wii, if only because this one looked almost EXACTLY like Galaxy 1, only with Yoshi.

The other is side-scrolling Mario. Which is awesome.

Hopefully it'll be better than NSMB1, which, while good, lacked a certain something : \

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2 Announced

This actually made my year.

I have no issues with sequels using the same basic gameplay; in fact, I usually prefer them to the original outing (Majora's Mask? Super Mario Bros. 3?), so I'm pretty excited about this. As long as it's a full-size, 120 Stars game, I can't complain.

Pretty much this. While at first I was excited to see Yoshi, the joy quickly wore off. I was pretty "meh" with the first Galaxy: sure, it was fun and innovative, but I can't be excited for the same game TWICE just because it has omgyoshi in it. I was expecting something new and different, and having just another Galaxy just....doesn't impress me so much. :\

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to wait and see more trailers to confirm if it's just more of the same thing.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2 Announced

I didn't get to watch the trailer fully at the time (still saw plenty of Yoshi, though ), but any more Galaxy is fantastic for me. Even if there isn't much new, more of the same will just extend the experience that the first gave, considering that I absolutely love Galaxy.

Would you have preffered all the new levels, powerups and Yoshi as DLC instead? That would have been ideal. Imagine EAD Tokyo giving us a new galaxy every month.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2 Announced

Nah, just give us it all once.

Regarding the game, I view it like this; even if it's a fairly traditional sequel, you can't go wrong with a sequel to what is a contender for the greatest game ever. Not when we've already seen some new tricks in this initial trailer (Yoshi, the drill item etc.)

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2 Announced

While its built on a solid foundation I hope its not too similar to the first which it kind of seems like from the trailer but then again this is the first footage ever so that might be why
