The key is that they said there were a lot of ideas they had that didn't make it into Galaxy. This tells me that most of the worlds in G2 are going to be unique. So what if their gimmicks are exclusive to the world they're in? Isn't that the point of the different worlds?

There's the fear of plenty of "filler" worlds. As many ideas as they had, I doubt Miyamoto was truthful when he stated that they had enough for a new game. I bet that there are going to be plenty of worlds that are highly reminiscent to those found in SMG, even if they're supposed to be new.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2 Announced

Well, I take back what I said. I don't remember where I read it, but it seems this Galaxy is going to be much harder than the first SMG, so that's pretty exciting. I for one thought that most of Mario Galaxy was just way too easy, with the exception of some of the Daredevil and Coin challenges. And 90% new levels sounds good, too.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2 Announced

As long as the quality is up to the same level as Super Mario Galaxy, then I'll be happy.

That means COMPLETELY NEW MUSIC, orchestrated music, equally or more so creative stages, and so on.

I could easily see them just recycling the tunes from Super Mario Galaxy 1, and as great as that soundtrack is, the laziness would just piss me off. Like Zelda music recycling piss me off. With Galaxy, Nintendo finally created a fantastic soundtrack after years of mediocrity since give or take OoT. I don't want to see that happening again.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2 Announced

Years of mediocrity?

Sunshine was mediocre but the soundtrack was great, as was Pikmin 1&2. Then there is Metroid which was also fantastic. Luigi's Mansion had a great leitmotif thing going on throughout.

Pretty unfair judgement.

FE9 and F10 also had great soundtracks. Same with the Paper Marios.

And hell, even when they feature a lot of remixes, Zelda soundtracks are better than a lot in gaming.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2 Announced

I'll put it this way:

I have no problem playing more Galaxy.
I like the inclusion of Yoshi in this sequel, and the direction they're taking with him.
I like the look of the new levels. They're not really all that groundbreaking, no, but they're new, and they look fun.

So, given that I like everything I see, and really ought to know what to expect since I already played a game like this, why shouldn't I be excited about this game?

As for difficulty:
Yes, Galaxy was easy, but going back and replaying 64, it's easy also. Galaxy is hella fun though, so I don't mind the lack of difficulty. As long as this one isn't easier I can't complain.

Majora's Mask is my favourite game, and that took from Ocarina's engine. I'd be a fool to criticise Galaxy 2 for it.

Man, I hope they have a better use for the whole star bit shooting thing . It sounded really cool and challenging when it was first described, but in the end all you ever really did with it was feed the Lumas. =/

All good, but not nearly on the same level for me.

That's actually how a lot of really good sequels have been.

Sonic the Hedgehog, Mario, and Ratchet and Clank are three games that are very, very different from eachother. So different, that one might not see similarities on the exterior. Yet, they're still considered platformers.
There's a lot more in regards to gameplay that you can do with a Platformer as opposed to a Fighter or Racer.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2 Announced

After reading this thread completely it's safe to restate this once more, and I mean in general.

You can simply NOT satisfy most gamers anymore these days. The complaining will never end, cause you're spoiled and demanding as ****. Learn to accept and like what they're giving you. If you can't, nobody forces you to play it.

Just, stop with wanting every single game to blow you away over and over, it's impossible.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2 Announced

yeah, it feels rushed!

basically like saying

''WE LOVE YOU CAUSAL GAMERS!!! HERES OUR NEW 'LETS WALK. DS' OR 'HOW TO EAT. DS'!!! SEE MUCH MUCH WE LOVE EVERYONE?!...............oh.....gamers.......heres erm mario galaxy 2.......now back to 'LEARN HOW TO BREATHE. DS!'...........

I think people are more worried that the fact that the game is being relaesed so soon after galaxy, and looks the same!

majoras mask was diffarant, they spent like what? 3-4 years? even though it looked the same, they spent LOADS of time perfecting it!

Yeah, I felt the exact same way. It was cool trying to fing them but shooting them in the game was pointless.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2 Announced

Regardless of the quality of Galaxy 2, it will sell well. Why? Because it has Mario and Nintendo people love Mario. Doesn't matter what he's doing.

No.

Ocarina of Time came out in 1998. Majora's Mask came out in 2000.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy 2 Announced

I'm really hoping for the Majora's Mask effect on this one.
Hopefully, with the interface/controls/graphics/presentation already mostly done and ready to go for another game, they can spend more time on the supposedly great ideas they had to leave out. It might also be harder, as Reggie claims. (This makes sense to me, as Miyamoto originally wanted Galaxy to be harder until the rest of the team apparently overrode him on it.)

In MM, you didn't stop using the Deku Mask after the forest temple.

We can't make that conclusion if game developers rarely pushed those genres to begin with.

Imagine if this was applied to some of the recent Sonic games. People would be paying for garbage without being warned beforehand.
