Trico Trailer!

Finally.

This looks insane. And that giant rat-mouse-whatever thing looks frighteningly real.

Looks like they're going back to ICO-style, but incorporating the sheer ginormousness of Shadow of the Colossus, in the role of your ally.

I can't wait to see more.

EDIT: Confirmed to be real by some people who saw it over a year ago and weren't allowed to talk about it. Before you complain about the visuals, THIS IS A VERY EARLY BUILD. The basic concept is probably there, but don't expect the final game to look like this.

Looks pretty good, but the only thing I dislike so far is the design of the kid.

A lot of people are saying he's probably just a placeholder, and I'm going to have to agree. If this is indeed real, it's clearly from very early on in development. Everything is probably going to be much more detailed in the final game.

Yeah, I liked the kid, but I found there to be some clipping with the feathers.

Of course, as soon as I saw that layered texture technique I knew it was team-Ico.

Overall it looks good, though.

This is one of the handful of games I'm really looking out for. Team Ico has already produced two magnificent and extremely original games, and no matter how doubtful it may seem at first sight, I have confidence in their game-making skills.

Regardless, this is ****ing awesome. Can't WAIT to see more!

I am soooooo happy about this. After waiting for something for awhile now, its good to get something on their new project. Must buy for me.

This is such an exciting moment. The trailer shows the beutiful early stages of an already-awesome game. Hopefully we can get more insight at e3. This is already my favorite future video game title.

I have, alas, never played Ico, and I've yet to beat Shadow of the Colossus, but I love the atmosphere and...uniqueness of that game.


Question: What odds that you play the colossus and the kid is your companion who has to hit switches (or whatever) for you?

I'd say its quite likeley, I remember in an interview with the developers they said that with the Ps3, they hope to achieve more than "A simple clash of two swords" which they described the Ps2 with.

When I watched the video my initial reaction was that you'd use Ratbird as transportation and you'd play the kid inside dungeons or interior areas. There was a least two or three spots in the trailer where you see the Ratbird put his head up to a "door" for the kid to crawl into.

Indeed, and given that the kid feeds the colossus and so-on, I do suspect that you'll end up controlling him, as opposed to it.


Still, it would be a nice twist to have you as a big, lumbering, powerful creature...that needs the smaller and more agile human to get into the spaces you can't reach and to get food for you.

I admired how the trailer teased at the possibility of the shadow beast from SOTC, showing us shadowy claws and something that doesn't like soldiers, only to slap us in the face with overwhelming cuteness. With such an adorable creature, Trico looks like it'll barely be as subtle as ET, nevermind its predecessors.

On a parallel note, anyone else smell a strong merchandising aroma with the koala-rat griffin? Ico and SotC were nigh unexploitable, but this thing just screams for cheap plushies, keychains and the like.

...You've concluded he's selling out because of a year-old trailer that shows something that's reasonably cute looking?

Ye gods, how you must have loathed Ico. .

I'm a prophet of doom, large overreaching assumptions based on year-old trailers is just what I do.

I'm just saying that Trico is a merchandising magnet where the other two were not. We will see it all. Trico the T-shirt, Trico: the Coloring Book, Trico: the Lunchbox, Trico: the Breakfast Cereal, and of course, Trico: the Flame Thrower. It will storm Japan in a fashion akin to Pokemon.

And you know that nothing in Ico comes close to the disgustingly adorable act of that thing feeding.

I don't, actually, see above note about having never played it. I've gathered that interactions between the hero and princess in Ico are very cute, though.

And I wouldn't be opposed to Trico merch, if it turns out to be a good game. My desk isn't so cluttered that a giant-rodent-thing plushy or protagonist sculpture couldn't find a home here.


(It occurs to me that Trico, the member, is going to get some interesting results if he ever searches for his name.)
