But Thunder Fang IS a great move. And also, it can both flinch AND paralyze. Two status capabilities are better than one. x3

Ok, Cynthia....either way, Thunder Fang is not that great. Sure, it can flinch and paralyze. But that's a 10% chance for EACH of them. A one tenth chance of both of those happening. That's the same as thunderbolt(10% paralyze)/ice beam(10% freeze)/flamethrower(10% burn).
Secondly, its power is only 65. Spark has the same power but has about a one-third chance of paralyzing (30%). Therefore, Spark IS better in comparison.
Now, if we're talking about visual affects, well, I don't care about that...

I care about mostly power and accuracy... So yeah Thunderbolt > Thunder. Ice Beam > Blizzard.... etc.

I still prefer Thunder Fang over Spark. To me, the more status problems I can inflict in one turn, the better, no matter how slim the chance. I also care about power and accuracy.

Flinching only works if you're faster as well.

Okey-dokey, another question:

The egg that Riley gave me has hatched a Riolu. Now, Riolu may have either Steadfast (boosts Lucario's speed after a flinch) or Inner Focus (prevents flinching altogether) as its trait. Mine has Steadfast.

Would Inner Focus have been the better option here, though? I'm just wondering if I should bother trying to level Riolu up, or wait until I can breed it and get one with Inner Focus.

Somehow, I think not losing a turn to flinching beats a temporary speed boost after losing a turn to flinching.

And guys, btw, I'm up against an electric type gym in Emerald after I train up a bit, but who should I use from my team since I don't have a ground type?

First and foremost, Azumarill and Tailow should sit this one out. Sending them out would be suicide.

Combusken should be good against his Magenton.

As for the others, see if there are any ground type moves they can learn. If not, just try and battle it out.

1. lucario is generally a pretty fast pokemon, so even if it has steadfast it probably won't matter unless you're facing up against weavile or something incredibly awesome like that

2. even if the pokemon is faster than you, a speed boost after a flinch will probably make you faster, giving you the upper hand for the next turn

3. flinching happens so rarely that i honestly don't think it matters

Well, it seems none of my Pokemon in Emerald learn any good ground type moves leveling up. I can check TMs, but I doubt I can get ahold of the right ones in time even if they could learn them.

Just raise a Geodude real quick if you really want to beat him.

No, it would take more time than training up my team would.
