In the manga it said that Giovanni was Silver's father. It is also partially implied in the game due to Silver's pure malice and hatred towards Team Rocket (and wimps and weak people apparently).

To decide which 'Nape you want to run go here. Luxray is a terrible Pokemon. It has a high attack but practically no physical move pool. If you really want to use it, go here.

Yeah I'm a little disappointed with Luxray's speed, to be honest - you'd think an electric pokemon would have better stats in that area. I suppose a lot of Luxray's appeal comes from the fact that it's an electric lion. It's still one of my favourites though, based on its design alone.

So, it seems that there's a case for keeping most of the moves there (or throwing them away), and many different moves that could plausibly replace them. That Smogon website was also very helpful.

For Infernape, I reckon the following will do:

- Grass Knot (to protect against heavy water-types like Lapras)
- Fire Blast (most powerful fire attack - I was tempted to replace this with Flare Blitz, but Flare Blitz does too much damage to Infernape in the process, I think, even though it has higher accuracy and PP)
- Close Combat (powerful fighting attack)
- Swords Dance (to boost attack)

If Infernape's stats work out when I've finished training it up, I might replace Swords Dance with Hidden Power (Ice) - that'll give Infernape the same protection as the suggested move Ice Punch, but could potentially be more powerful.

As for Luxray:

- Thunderbolt (relatively powerful and has a good accuracy rate)
- Spark (for the paralysis factor) / Charge (double electric power on next move)
- Crunch (for the flinching effect)
- Ice Fang (to protect against the rock/ground types)

I really wanted to keep Thunder Fang, for the flinching effect that it's good for, but there's already Crunch that can achieve that effect...and Thunderbolt's more powerful.

I'm still not sure if I should get rid of Spark or Charge - one doubles Luxray's attack (forgoing one move), whereas the other has a 30% chance of paralysis. Ah decisions...

They're electric Zebra Pokemon. Joltcolt and Joltallion (evolved form). Joltcolt is obviously an electric type while Joltallion is electric/flying. While Joltcolt can have either Static or Run Away as its ability, Joltallion can either have Intimidate or Volt Absorb.

Oh awesome. I caught an Electrike with Lightningrod in Emerald. That's a very good ability. Seems to be rarer too, cause I run into mostly wild Electrike that have Static.

Astarel, Thunder Fang only has a 10% chance for flinching and paralyzing, compared to Spark it's not as good.
Ranny, Thunder Fang may be a great move to you since it helped you win against the Elite Four, but it only happened to flinch from that 10%. It's not that great to be honest.

And for Luxray, Thunder Fang > Thunderbolt due to it being a physical attack.

Actually, Luxray has some pretty decent Sp. Attack as well.
Thunderbolt could actually be better than Thunder Fang depending on the stats of the attack and sp. attack.
If Luxray's nature decreases attack then I'd recommend Thunderbolt. (But then again, IV's come into play as well....hrm.)

Actually, it helped me beat Cynthia, not any of the Elite Four. xP

But Thunder Fang IS a great move. And also, it can both flinch AND paralyze. Two status capabilities are better than one. x3

Discharge on PMD2 is epic. It practically owns Monster Rooms. I get a lot of EXP for it xD.

Discharge + Violent Seed = you're screwed.

Speaking of electric type moves, Electrike needs to learn a good one soon. It has great special attack, which means I wanna give it Thunderbolt and Thunder and stuff like that in the future.

Close enough. The Elite Four always has someone extra at the end.

@ Yami: Jeez, we just said it was already posted, no need to spazz out.

@ Ranny: Electrike learns Thunder at level 36 and Manectric learns it at 45. And since you are playing Emerald remember, the physical/special split hasn't happened yet so those Electric moves will take advantage of it's high Special Attack.

And like Hawke said, the Special/Physical split did not occur until Generation IV.
