Espeon is also very charming and powerfull. It has 130 base Sp.Att, which is huge, and a decent speed. But all of that fall into those less than average defenses.

I also fully support of anyone that uses Exeggutor.

if it's fast and strong enough you don't need defenses aaahhh haha

How about starters for DPPT? What one do you start off most often?

I start with Turtwig. I love that son of a gun xD.

I'd start with Chimchar. He learns awesome attacks earlier on. See it for yourself!:

I started with Turtwig. I have a habit of alternating between water and grass starters (Squirtle -> Chikorita -> Mudkip -> Turtwig).
I've never started with a fire Pokemon, as I'm not really big on fire types (although Blaziken is pretty cool).

I started with Chimchar because I love fire type Pokemon. Plus Infernape is WIN. x3

All the the D/P starters were stupid, but i picked Chimchar becuase i like fire types.

Piplup was the best.

I've pretty much always liked Fire types. Charmander is the best out of the originals, but they're all really good. Totodiles okay, but Chikorita and Cyndiquin kick it's ass. I didn't particularly like any of the 3rd gen Pokemon. But I usually picked Torchic. But then Turtwig is the best out of the rest. Chimchar is a second. Piplup is kinda lame. :/

Ranny: Torterra owns Monferno. Earthquake FTW.

EDIT: Oh yes, Ponyta is awesome. I'm glad you can catch it so early in Platinum.

well infernape is a beast and he has high speed so to be honest if torterra went against monferno the fire type would prevail if it knew a decent fire move

I found out by playing most of the games what starters you should use.

RB - Bulbasaur.
GSC - Cyndaquil (Female).
RSE - Torchic.
DPPT - Turtwig/Chimchar.

RB: Because Bulbasaur can beat the first four gyms without much trouble.
GSC: A Female one can beat Whitney's Milktank in a few hits.
RSE: Fighting attacks on Rock Gym, Abuse Peck in the Fighting Gym, Fire Attacks on Watt's Team, Fire against Fire, Fighting owns Normal.
DPPT: Turtwig always was good for me but in Crasher Wake's Gym. =/ For Chimchar, he just owns anything and everything (But Crasher Wake -_-).

Infernape is my favorite fire type, followed by Rapidash cause it's a horse. <3 I love fire and I love horses!

I usually prefer the water and grass starters of the series. I liked:

RBY: Bulbasaur
GSC: Totodile
RSE: Mudkip
DPPt: Turtwig

(Fire x Grass = x2) + (Fire x Ground = x0.5) = x1

But (Ground x Fire = x2) + (Ground x Fighting = x1) = x2

So there. Torterra beats Infernape.

Ground provides no defensiveness to Fire.

Yup, that's right!

Infernape can also trump Empoleon with a fighting type move because fighting beats steel and a grass type move because he can learn grass type moves.

Infernape is totally win. x3

So I just started playing Platinum. What the hell are with these ****ty starter pokemon? Pochama? A friggin penguin? Hikozaru is some sort of weird fire monkey and Naetoru some sort of Bulbasaur wannabe.

None of these appeal to me. :/ Hopefully the new ones coming in September have good starters.

I think Torterra defence capabilities could let it survive one SE hit from Infernape and then OHKO with Earthquake (unless it is carring a Focus Sash, but only on leads).

If you think Torterra is going to survive a 120 power move plus STAB plus SE from something with Infernape's attack whilst holding a Life Orb (or worse, Choice Band), then you would be sadly mistaken.
