3D Realms Closed? Duke Nukem Forever Finally Cancelled?

Reports are, the studio will close by the end of the week. Still no word on if DNF will be finished by another company or not.

Sad. I know DNF has always been the joke of the gaming industry for it ridiculous dev cycle, but I think everyone wanted to see the game just get completed. Now, that may not happen.

This doesn't affect the Duke Nukem Trilogy for PSP/DS being developed by Apogee. I kinda hope they take on DNF. They seem to actually make progress with their game.

If they do close, then we can finally have closure on this whole DNF thing. Sad that it will never be release but then again, it is closure.

But...but......I was supposed to come get some. Duke Forever that is.

Duke Nukem Forever is forever, guys. It can never truly be canceled.

At least not in our hearts.

Someone will inevitably pick up DNF and continue this brutal development cycle. It's going to be one hell of a mess by the time it comes out. I just hope I'm physically able to still play video games when it's released. Arthritis might be in full swing by the time that happens, and I can't say that'd be a bad thing.

Almost 13 years is too long. If it ever were to be released, it would more than likely flop beyond belief.

Well, the original Duke Nukem, Duke II, and Duke 3D were all great games, in my opinion. Everything after that, not so much, though I never played Manhattan Project.

I believe you're talking about the Duke Nukem Trilogy for DS/PSP which is developed by Apogee. And no, they aren't affected by this recent news.

Hell, I think they actually have a date for their games. I think it's September or something.

So now we can wait even longer for it not to come out.

I don't get what the big deal is.

Really? I'd argue that disliking Duke Nukem is a key sign that you are a perfectly sane person.

Yeah, I always thought Duke Nukem's "humor" was lame. Then again, I only ever really got into the DOS platformers back in the early 90s. The third one didn't do anything for me.

Oh well, the original DOS game was the only one I really liked anyway.

Unfortunate, but 3D Realms has a long history of producing not very much at all. Outside of Duke Nukem 3D some very, very mediocre titles later on, and Duke Nukem Forever, what else have they done in the last ten or so years? Prey is good, but it was stuck in development hell for close to a decade as well, and a games company of even a moderate size can't afford to put out one title every five years, especially if it's going to try to compete with the big sellers.

Apogee Software's COO Terry Nagy has revealed that a press release regarding new Duke Nukem info will arrive sometime next week.

From Nagy:

"New press release from Apogee Software regarding Duke Nukem coming next week."

The Duke Nukem Trilogy is scheduled to be released sometime in fall of this year; however, Duke Nukem Forever's fate is less than certain.
