And as much as I would love Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland to be in the US, it's not NoA fault for it. They held a poll and had people vote whether they wanted TRR in the US. Guess the results.

I think I'd probably like the original. Perhaps the second Ouendan game more, since it features cameos of the Agents and takes some scenes from EBA, too.

At least TRR was also released in Europe, which has English speaking countries, and the DS is region free.

Namco has some Tales games that they never released (Hearts looks good, but'll never get an American release for a long time). Square did lots of this in the SNES era. It doesn't help that nowadays they're releasing lots of Final Fantasy cell phone games that won't get released here unless they port the games to other systems, which makes the game take longer to come here. They have to port and translate the game.

With the English patch for the Mother 3 ROM, the fact it's not localized is mostly irrelevant, I would think. So maybe it's not the exact same as having a legal copy, but I would hardly think anyone would feel obligated to buy a copy of the game when the parent company is refusing to localize it.

That's a strange case though. An appearance in SSB was enough to get Fire Emblem landed over here. Why Lucas's appearance in Brawl does not get Mother 3 over here is beyond me. You think there HAS to be enough interest for a NA release, just by the Brawl appearance alone. Strange, strange.

Nintendo doesn't want to sell a GBA game in a DS era. Not to mention it looks like a kid's game but it has lots of dark scenes, so they would probably censor it or take flak from parents and the media, and Nintendo doesn't want to tarnish their rep.

That's odd since I read somewhere that Fatal Frame 4 will come to the US under another publisher. Still, very bad move on NoA's part not to do it themselves.

Mother 3 has too much in it that would be impossible to market in the US, so I actually understand where they're coming from in not localizing it. It just wouldn't work.
Had it been another EarthBound, I suspect it probably would have made its way over here at some point.

I actually wish they released both the US and Jap ones. I was just saying that there are enough people who like Japanese stuff that they'd buy it. Heck, I'd have played it. Not because it's the original, but because I like EBA for the gameplay but disliked it for the song choice.

Right, but those games aren't as good. (Namco has a few- Time Crisis, Tekken, Soul Edge/Calibur, Katamari.... but those all make it to the NA and EU.) Perhaps I've simply been missing a goldmine of JP exclusive Namco games, though. I don't really keep a close enough eye on the company to know.

Japanese stuff doesn't suck. The theme from Full Metal Alchemist in EBA is what sucks.

Christ, I thought you'd have seen enough of my posts to know I'm just as critical of mainstream Japanese generics as I am of mainstream western generics. (I mean, come on, I complained about Mother 3 not having a proper NA/EU release in this same post.)

I think it probably will be quicker to learn Japanese than that Nintendo starts to stop being afraid of bad publicity.

They could even just release Mother 3 without any publicity. The word on the internet will spread fast enough for them to let the translation be worthwhile. Heck that has already been done for them. And if they release it on VC then it will lower the cost even further.

Of course for Wii games it is a different story. That's just plain silly. If they really are worried about the costs just let it be translated by some Japanese students and voice acted by people on the street.

I don't think Mother 3 would have much trouble, honestly.

Based on the fanbase alone, it would sell a bunch, but add in the factor of "word of mouth" and I could easily see it breaking 100K at least.

Mother 3 got passed over because it was on the GBA and the DS had taken off by the time that a Western release was possible, same goes with Rhythm Tengoku (and the original Mother on the NES)

And Captain Rainbow was never going to come over, Birdo has a dildo in it and all sorts of other weird stuff.
