Looks like Sega is going to push this pretty hard, it's like half the magazine is just for this! There are so many scans that I reached the image limit for a post <_<

The games looks pretty cool, nothing insanely cringeworthy like Star Ocean 4! Wonder if the Valkyrie Profile team is working on this (is tri-ace even split into teams?)...

I hope that Tri-Ace haven't broken from S-E for good, I want another VP ;___;.

The game actually looks... good! The style, setting, characters and world look incredible. Hopefully it actually is. Third time's the charm this generation for Tri-Ace? I'm going to look for more information now.

A quick search reveals that Suguro directed Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria. Before that he worked as a planner for Final Fantasy Tactics and Vagrant Story.

So pedigree confirmed! I enjoyed Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria, and of course Final Fantasy Tactics and Vagrant Story were legendary. Color me cautiously excited!

April 8, 2009 - Tri-ace's mystery RPG project, announced on April 1st, got its full unveiling today through Famitsu. Continuing the naming tradition of Infinite Undiscovery, the next title from the company is titled End of Eternity. And in a surprise move, the publisher of this multiplatform PS3 and Xbox 360 RPG won't by Square Enix, but Sega!

End of Eternity takes place far in the future on an Earth whose environment has gotten so bad that people have moved into a giant mechanized tower called Bazel. This tower reaches far up into the sky. The upper floors house religious facilities, including the religious leader who's known as the "Cardinal," and the rich. The lower floors house the poor as well as mining areas.

Bazel's creation is far in the past as the game kicks off. We're introduced to three characters: the 17-year-old male Zaphyr, the 26-year-old male Vashyron, and the 19-year-old female Subject #20. Zaphyr, the game's main character, and Vashyron live together and work for a private military firm. Subject #20 was manufactured for an experiment which required that she be set to die at 20 years of age. Upon learning how little she has to live, she fled her research facility.

Gameplay in End of Eternity is split between fields spanning the floors of Bazel and the dungeons that are located on those floors. These two areas of the game have different movement systems. In the fields, you view the action from an overhead view and move your party about on a hexagonal grid, encountering enemies at random. During dungeons, you move your character about in third person and can see your enemies in advance, transitioning seamlessly into battle when spotted.

The battle system (this appears to be shared between both fields and dungeons) takes place in semi-realtime and gives you control of one character out of a three character party. When you're moving about on the battle field, time progresses as you engage in flashy gun fights. Once your move ends, time freezes, allowing you to strategically plan your attack.

There's still a lot of mystery surrounding the battle system, and all of End of Eternity for that matter. Details will presumably be more abundant on Friday as the game's official site opens up at eoe.sega.jp. Sega and Tri-Ace will be putting up movies and more at that site, so those who love their JRPG should definitely check it out.

The story sounds really unique. I saw futuristic Earth and I was like "Ew," but then I saw the crazy tower of Babel and test subject stuff and I was like "Cool."

I was hoping this was going to be a new Valkyrie Profile game, but this'll do. I just hope it doesn't disappoint as much as their other recent stuff has.

Isn't that many scans from one issue a bit much? Hopefully they're not overselling it without reason, but from what's been shown so far, it looks promising. I'll become more interested once a trailer is released.

Well it certainly looks pretty but it's not enough to reel me in. I'd have to say the same as GKANG on this one, I'll have to wait for a trailer and see how it goes from there.

I haven't actually played FFVII, but seeing those pictures made me think of it.



There's so much that can be done with the idea of a dystopian, cyberpunk future, it needn't all be Shinra out to do bad things.

This game just screams Final Fantasy VII for me. Specifically Junon and Midgar.

Like I said in another thread, I'm not really digging this. I'm not really ready for yet another Final Fantasy VII based game, especially if it's all guns. The whole tower idea sounds alright, but it sounds constricting too. Really, how much variation can you get.

I said it at the screen, and I'll say it at the trailer. I'm waiting for gameplay to get me interested now.

Eh, I don't have much to say about this. Looks kinda neat but there really isn't anything standing out to me, at least from that trailer.

The videogame industry is based on re-used ideas. Whether it's Mario or Zelda or Final Fantasy VII, if it's insanely popular, it's going to be copied for a long, long time.

Developers will stop making FFVII clones once an original RPG as ridiculously popular as FFVII comes out (It's difficult for more original RPGs to succeed, however).

Anyway, the game looks neat.

Well sure, I think most RPG fans would know that. I'm just saying that I'm personally not ready for another so similar right now. I'll probably pick this game up somewhere between 6 to 12 months after it's released - assuming it doesn't bomb. I don't think it will though.

All that cliche made my head hurt. Beautiful men and seemingly submissive women with little powerful guns killing everyone without effort in a dystiopian setting is just so annoying! When is originality going to become a reality? Every day I find myself bored to hell with the announcement of dull games and the current array of dissapointing games.

Very much Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria and very much less Star Ocean IV, which is a good thing.

Clearly, in the future all guns will be recoilless automatic pistols with bottomless magazines.

I'm seriously starting to understand why Japanese gamers are starting to hate gaming with some of the stuff that Japanese developers are putting out. So many bad RPGs (not saying this one will be), with only a few that are actually worth playing above the rest (Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, the occasional Tales, Kingdom Hearts, Xenosaga, to name a/the few).
