The voice acting was great, eggman was actually an evil son of a female dog in this game, unlike the new eggman who acts like a cowardly retard. Shadow wasnt so emo and his voice actor was the best. The gameplay was great (though it did have a few annoying camera problems, but the better you get at the game the easier it gets to avoid such problems) and so was the storyline. The music was awesome. Even "Escape from the city" that song was so cheesy it rocked!
The voice acting was terrible. Eggman was more evil back when Sonic games had practically no plot. The gameplay had way too many Unexpected Genre Changes.

Sonic Adventure 2 is not a bad game. You could say it's a bad Sonic game, but it is not a bad game. And neither is Sonic Adventure.

Re: Sonic Adventure 2

I found Sonic Adventure 2: Battle to be very fun, truthfully. It was probably one of the better GC games I had at the time, which included Starfox Adventures (Dinosaur Planet), and definitely much better than Sonic Adventure 1 (which bored me to tears). Possibly it was the Chao Garden system which sparked off my continued interest beyond the main game, but it was enjoyable. The graphics were good, the storyline easy to follow (and stayed somewhat interesting until the end), the music was pretty damned good and especially so when it came to the bosses.

I positively loathed the Knuckles/Rouge stages though, especially the ones where there was a time limit and I had to go running all over a huge level to find 3 emeralds in 3-4 minutes. That sucked, as time limit levels are the bane of my gaming existance. The Eggman/Tails stages weren't that great either, but more tolerable than Knuckles/Rouge anyway. At least blowing stuff up was fun. The Sonic/Shadow stages were the most enjoyable, although a tad boring as 'speed' was the only thing to go on, really.

So yes, while it's not a bad game and even appealing to some people, it's not actually a very good Sonic game, but enjoyable enough. It is infinitely better than Sonic Heroes was. THAT game is a piece of ****, game-wise and Sonic-wise.

I can say both are bad games, because they are. The design is terrible, the plot is ludicrous, the voice acting is embarrassing, the dialogue is ****ing horribly written, and the gameplay is broken.

Right; the other poster forgot to mention that you're correct about the plot being ludicrous, as well (Then again, when was Sonic or Mario or other mascot platformers known for their plots, anyway?)

As for the other parts being all-out terrible (At least for its time; as evidenced by the positive critical and consumer reception, the game was acceptable by the standards of that time), nah, you're wrong about that.

Yes, that explains why it's a piss poor game.

It was then. This isn't a game like Goldeneye; it's a game like the first Sonic Adventure. Both games are terribly designed with erratic core gameplay with random types of gameplay added to pad the length of the game. The game being an early last-gen game isn't an excuse for it being terrible; the amount of early last-gen games that were good upon release are pretty much still good.

Games don't age over time. It's the same god damned game. If it was good then it's good now. If it was terrible then it's still terrible now. To say anything else is to let nostalgia get in the way of your opinion.

Now, that, said, it was a pretty good game. It had good and varied level design, beautiful and distinct environments, amazingly good transitions between what were essentially in level cinematics and actual gameplay, and an incredible amount of replay value (With two different quests, grades for every level, hidden power-ups for every character, and they surprisingly complex Chao system which also had you replaying through levels to collect animals I found myself playing SA2 long after beating it.)

Also, the soundtrack was surprisingly good, looking back. Sure, all the lyrics sucked, but the actual instrumentals were great. I still get a rush whenever I listen to City Escape or Pumpkin Hill. (Of course, ignore the vocals, especial the vocals in Pumpkin Hill.)

Sure, the plot and VA are terrible but would you really expect good VA and plot from a game like this?

Oh yes, I forgot about those two stages, silly me. I had levels like White Jungle in mind, I forgot how unpleasant the space levels were.

How can you compare Goldeneye with SA2? They're two completely different games.

I wasn't comparing the two games against each other; I was using it as an example of a universally-acclaimed game that doesn't exactly hold up anymore.
