Dragon Quest

So, I've decided that I'm going to collect and play the main DQ series. I've owned DQIII for the GBC for ages, and I just now got really into it. I also just won DQI&II for the GBC off of ebay.
I figured I would make this thread for the purpose of talking about the main DQ series, as I'll want people to discuss it with as I progress through each game.

So what are everyone's thoughts on the series?

Amazing series. Just finished IV on DS. Can't wait for the US release of V.

V is out. Just came out last week I believe.

I'm obsessed with J/RPGs, but this is one of the series I haven't even touched. I'm not even sure if I want to get into it, if I did it'd be the console games.

VIII was amazing, IV was only OK. V is awesome. I've been playing V the last couple of weeks myself.

I think I killed my vision playing DQ VII this fall/winter. I've cut down on all videogames since then. . . That game was horribly addicting though, and it satisfied every urge I ever had for Jrpgs, minus the eyecandy.

I absolutely adore Dragon Quest.

Am playing V now, been in Gotha awhile, I picked Bianca. my party is a Slime Knight, Sabre and a Rotten Apple.

I really hope that DQIX is released in English before the end of the year, Nintendo said they were going to push it in the west so a christmas release would make sense!

I only played Dragon Quest: Journey of the Cursed King. I enjoyed playing that game, the storyline is amazing. =)

Hopefully my copy of Dragon Quest I&II comes in for this weekend so that I can play it in my dorm next week.

edit: It came today! (March 7) I'll start playing it in my dorm on Monday.

Well, I beat I&II and I must say they were quite enjoyable. I often hear people ridicule II as being not as good as the original, but I found that it was superior in every way to the first.
I'm now playing III. I just got the King's golden crown back from that thief and got to be king for a while. So far III's shaping up to be another huge jump in quality from II.

My favourite RPG series. I've been playing these games since I was a kid and I've never gotten tired of any of them. Dragon Quest III is probably my favourite.

Playing through the DQV remake for DS at the moment. It's solid, and obviously not as good as the PS2 version, but still satisfying. I just can't wait until the DQVI remake comes out! I wish they'd release some screenshots or something, at least.

That is a good choice for favorite.

Of course. Japan gets a PS2 version of V, and a Super Nintendo version of I-III. Oh well. I don't think that the PS2 version looks much better.
