Nintendo's "New" Official Classic Controller PRO.

Update #1:
Quote:
"At this time, we do not have any plans to launch the Classic Controller Pro in the United States," a Nintendo rep responded when questioned about the new controllers US release.

Wow, I'm gonna rant on this thing. Little info right now, but so far it has:

Quote:
* New handle grips
* Increased spacing between joysticks
* Cord attaches from the top of the controller instead of the bottom
* Extra trigger/shoulder buttons
Okay, first of all. This looks exactly like the first Classic Controller. It seems Nintendo's theme this gen is to release new hardware that carries out 85% of it's predecessor's design. The handles are an improvement, but it seems they're stuck on. You may think "well that's not a problem", but it is. This should have blatantly been an addon accessory for the current Classic Controller. They're making you buy a second controller, so you have the handles. Also, the increased space between the sticks isn't the improvement they should have done. Those sticks feel like joysticks. They're too long.

The only good thing I have to say is about the cable. Who's utterly dumb idea was it to put the cable on the bottom of the first one?

Anyway in conclusion, I think I'm most certainly going to stick with my original Classic Controller (which I rarely use anyway since I have a GCN controller).

Here's an alternative.

Waste your money on the official cash-in?
This unofficial grip is $10.

If it has "classic" in the title I rather have an NES controller. Simple yet useful.

Re: Nintendo's "New" Official Classic Controller PRO.

You don't have to buy it. No whining necessary.

And it couldn't have been a simple add-on as you claim, because they've included new buttons in this one. You just put buttons on a shell, attach it to a controller and have those inputs work.

It looks convenient so I'll probably buy it. Especially if it's only $10.

That looks nifty, but I'm still going for the NYko Wii Wing controller instead.

I'll maybe get it if it has rumble, which I doubt it gets.

Re: Nintendo's "New" Official Classic Controller PRO.

That controller isn't worth buying in my opinion. It's just a modified controller; although, it would be good if this was released originally, instead of the flat class controller.

Also, I went into the liberty to translate the image on my own (I mean I really translated it on my own; no Google Translate-Babelfish). It says Classic Controller PRO. Nothing hard. Woo. *crickets*

Re: Nintendo's "New" Official Classic Controller PRO.

Rumble is probably going to be one of the key features. I don't think there would be much of a point releasing if it was just to get a better grip.

Although you could be right. I'd imagine rumble would make it more expensive then $10.

Ah who knows we'll find out soon enough.

You're missing the point. You don't have to buy it, no. You do however, have to purchase a second controller when all you want is the grip. You can't buy the grip as a stand alone product, which is what this should have been.

Tell me, what games are you going to play that use another two bumper buttons? No game by Nintendo, or on any of Nintendo's consoles / handhelds have ever used more than a single L and R bumper. The exception is the GCN controller which had a Z button acting as a second bumper on the right. For this, we have a GCN controller. This new controller doesn't even work with GCN games anyway.

EDIT:

Willy, it's the unofficial grip at the bottom is $10 - not the Nintendo one. There's no way the Classic Controller PRO is going to be that low of a price. Also, it doesn't support rumble. If it did, it would make it a worthwhile purchase almost.

EDIT2: Rofl, when I saw new posts in this thread, I though Mr. Wonderful changed his name.

Why? Why is the grip so much more important than the new buttons?

Ever think of future games on the way? We have a new Guilty Gear coming soon, that would benefit from more buttons and tighter control. Monster Hunter 3's control scheme is going to be very input-heavy, and thus with a classic controller would need a lot of buttons. Just to name a couple.

It's the only noticeable advantage over the previous controller.

Then there's the buttons ...... vvv

Okay, I see your point, it could help somewhat. Only one, the classic controller was made with VC usage in mind. It's primarily meant to be used to play old games. Two, I do agree that games like GG should use this controller, if not the GCN one. Fighting games + motion sensor moves usually end up being very inaccurate. Three, if they did use those buttons in upcoming games, that would most likely mean you'd have to buy the controller to get the best experience. However, Brawl? The controls for that game were spot on, and it didn't need another two shoulder buttons.

Honestly, would you buy this if it didn't have grips, but still had an extra two shoulder buttons?

Heck, I take back what I said good about the buttons. Use the damn ZL and ZR buttons on the top which have absolutely zero use for any game at the moment.

1. It's been shown to play just fine with certain current gen games
2. Cool, glad we agree on something
3. Most games that use a Classic Controller have other control methods available so, youre not completely SOL

I wouldn't because I don't need it, but I'm sure there's enough people out there would see the appeal in it.

A few games have used those, and I'm sure more will as we're getting better third party products down the line.

1. Well I know that, but it's main focus is for VC.
3. And to be honest, those are going to be the more used control methods. I can't see people going out to buy this, because they want the extra two buttons for a select amount of games that haven't been made yet. They might, however, go out to buy it because holding the current controller is like holding thin air with an awkward lack of plastic. That's why I think people should just get a grip, because the original design was pretty badly flawed, and they shouldn't have to pay more since it includes yet another classic controller.

In contrast though, if you actually need a second controller (for example if two people in your home both play Brawl on the CC only :/), then you might as well get this.

Quote:

They might, but I also don't think they're not going to buy it for two buttons they probably won't need. Perhaps if they don't even own one controller yet.

Quote:

Which games? Not to argue, but just out of interest.

Re: Nintendo's "New" Official Classic Controller PRO.

The classic controller was one of the stupidest constoller designs since the Atari 5200. The A and B butons possitions should be switched, as well as the X and Y, the joy sticks are too long, and its hard as hell to hold. This redo only fixes one of the problems. I only use mine for the TG16 games (they don't work well with the GC controller for some reason), so whats the point? Looks like my GC controller is gonna keep getting action.

It looks like an enhanced version of the gamecube controller, except X and Y buttons aren't on the side, and the main control stick is down low.

Wow Nintendo is lame!!
