Defensive Gamers Ruin Gaming.

It's just come to mind that "Defensive Gamers Ruin Gaming". By this, I mean the fanboys. A lot of people are complaining a lot about the Wii, with endless debates about how it does and doesn't suck. What I hate is, the whole fanboy thing is the main reason I don't like a certain console.

I myself, own a Wii and an XBOX360. I can see clear advantages and disadvantages of owning both systems, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of owning a PS3. The defensive gamer cannot. If you say one bad thing about their console, you'll be faced with an onslaught of heated discussion for possible hours at a time. Obvious examples are "the Wii sucks and it's for casuals / lack of games" and "LOL PS3 sucks / LOL360 sucks".

Now for me, I've changed companies a lot throughout the years. Good old school gaming was best on the S/NES, I'd take a PS1/2 over an N64/GCN any day (yeah, sorry Zelda Mario and Banjo :/), and this gen I'm most comfortable with Microsoft's XBOX360.

Here's the thing. I could have been comfortable with a PS3 this gen, but because of fanboys I'm repulsed from the PS3. This is because the gamers from any opposing console base will always attack the other console base. In my example, I'd probably love playing a PS3 - heck I know I would. I don't feel like purchasing one though, because of this whole console war fanboy situation.

Basically, what I'm trying to get at is - why can't gamers see faults in their consoles, and see that they're just that - a gaming console. A somewhat related example of this, and the reason I made this thread, came from a discussion on a Wii news board. A new game was announced by the developer's of the Let's Tap game, "Let's Catch". I argued that even if the game had flawless control, it's a game about catching a ball (WiiWare, at that). No matter what I said, the other guy wouldn't give in to small criticism over what is most likely a crappy game coming out on the Wii. Heck, I'm not afraid to admit the marketplace has a bunch of crappy games. Because he's a Wii only owner though, everything on his console must be gold and cannot be otherwise.

I think I've said enough. I don't think I came across very clearly, but do you guys understand what I mean? It's usually fanboys putting you off consoles you don't own. Again for me, I'd love a PS3. The machine is pretty good for gaming. It's not it's game lineup or hardware that repels me, it's the defensive community behind it.

Dude, if you really get turned away from getting a ps3 by the fanboys...I'm hoping you really werent interested in it that much then. I do catch your drift...I mean, my cusin and I both are big haters of nasty fanboy spazers in any catagory, but if you really like something, then you need to just suck it up. I can understand how people act the way they are, having pride in the system. They feel if they dont, then no one else will defend it (false) and it'll just get hammered on. It also justifies there choices for themselves of buying the most expensive gaming console to date....exluding PCs...but yeah. And dont act like there isnt a spaz 360 community as well, you know there is. >u<

I understand what you mean, GKANG. Although I never really paid much attention at all to any fanboy of any console. I own a PS3, and I prefer it over any other console - actually, I gotta say that I enjoy playing each new gen console, and there are pretty decent games to go with each (that being said, there's obviously really crappy ones to.)

Honestly, I think defensive gamers in general ruin gaming for others. I know some casual gamers who went on the internet looking to get some good game recommendations but instead fall face first into the next gen console war fanboyism crap. I mean, the whole "the Wii aiming towards casual gamers these days" as well. People get really *****y about that, and it kind of bothers me. Gamers can be pretty selfish.

I don't understand how one person can just stick with one console anyways. :\

The only systems I've ever owned have all been Nintendo systems. But, I choose not to bash Sony and Microsoft because I know that there ARE some better games on them.

Ignore all fanboys, They tend to be fat adults that live with their parents, work dead end jobs and such. I normally get the Nintendo systems bc of price, so I'm more loyal to $$$ than my console. I know I'm missing out on games I'd like and all, but gaming is just one of the many things I can do. I don't buy thousands of games and spend all day on them. It's just something to pass the time with.

Fanboys are definitely a nuisence. I have the strong urge to pick up a PS3, but the insane fanboys that defend it to the point of committing ritual suicide for it scare me away. Now don't get me wrong, I want a PS3 and will probably pick one up soon, but people who are unwilling to admit the flaws of systems and games are just plain stupid.

The biggest place that I'm tired of running into fanboys isn't a specific console, but one game: Halo 3. I can't go on there and say anything remotely bad about the game without getting flamed so bad I have to leave the match if I want my mind intact. Ok, so Halo 3's multiplayer is fairly entertaining, I'll give it that, but the singleplayer was so short and lackluster it was pathetic. At most, the game should have scored 7/10 for goo multiplayer, but poor singleplayer. Singleplayer should be more than half the game and should draw us in as much as the multiplayer.

One good example I will cite is one of my personal favorites, Kameo: Elements of Power, for the Xbox 360. It's currently one of my favorite games. With exceptional cartoon graphics for being a launch title, it gives you a strong, if short, single player game similar to the Zeld format with dungeons and stuff (with the exclusion of items in exchange for the shape shifting abilities. And while the multiplayer is there, it never distracts you enough to pull you away from the highly replayable singleplayer.

I have to admit I was once pulled over to the dark side of fanboyism in my younger days but I slowly came to the realization (after having enough money to change my perspective) that there was no reason for it. It doesn't make any difference what everyone else is playing or how great a game library for said console really is. What's really important is that you enjoy playing what you want to play, regardless of what anyone else thinks about the game or the console it's played on.

They all have their strengths and weaknesses, it's just like anything else in this world.

Yup, just up until about a year ago I was a solid Ninty fanboy. Now that I have all systems, I can say that whatever Nintendo won't give me, Microsoft or Sony will.

I think that all three systems, Wii, PS3, 360, all have something about them that is better than the other systems. Wii is fun to play, since it gets you into the game more than the other systems due to the motion-sensing capabilities. PS3 is a power-house, and most of the games that you play give you a sense of awe when you see the graphics and doubles as a Blu-Ray Player. And the 360 is sort of a middle system, where it has some of the graphics capabilities as the PS3, but not the steep price. So I think that each of the systems has its own unique capabilities, although I would have to say, that the Wii is my favorite, because I like getting into the game and using the Wii-mote and nunchuk to play the games, and the price, virtual console, and ability to play every GameCube game (instead of certain games like the 360, or around 3/4 of the games like the PS3) are plus sides as well.

They're extremely annoying, but their opinions hardly matter. What I find most ridiculous about the whole console wars thing is, who cares about the console? It's the games that make them good, and these games usually aren't even associated with the creator of the consoles.

I know how you feel about it being annoying but I just ignore them now. I have many different systems from the Jaguar to the Wii to the 360 and all inbetween. I love video games and no one can take that away from me no matter how much of a fanboy someone is. Just ignore it and love the fact that you can play games and Joe Liberman hasn't banned them.

Ignore the fanboys and their stupid comments
Play the games you want to play, ones that you like and enjoy playing

Ignoring the whole situation should eliminate the whole "fanyboys ruining your gaming experience" thing.
