Bad News: DSi to be $170. Good News: Rhythm Heaven April 5th!!

Rumors prove mostly true for date and price of new DS iteration.

Rumors from last month weren't completely accurate about the release date and price for the DSi, but they were strikingly close. Nintendo has announced that the new system will launch on April 5, 2009, at a price of $169.99. Only Blue and Black colors will be available at first, though we're sure Nintendo has plans to expand the color selection. Despite a seeming lack of interest from Japan, the system has been a financial success there, so we don't see any reason to doubt it will make a big impact in the States.
The press release teases the DS Store, but doesn't mention specific games planned for the launch of the service. The retail game Rhythm Heaven will also launch on April 5 alongside the new system. The game made a good impression and was even on our Most Wanted feature, so it may be a good title to pick up as the debut of your shiny new system.

I can't believe the price increase rumor is true. It's ridiculous that people who already own a DS are going to buy this.

On the other hand,

WOOOOO00000OOO! Rhythm Heaven is coming to the US! And only two months away!

Finally, another unique DS game that interests me.

Rhythm Heaven's been dated? FINALLY? YES
So long as they haven't messed it up, it should still be awesome. I might have to buy the localised one too if that's the case.

I don't plan on getting a DSi anytime soon (if at all), so the RTG stuff is the only bit of this I truly care about. Thanks ^^

I don't care for a DSi, either, and I also can't believe people are going out of their way to buy another DS that doesn't really offer anything new or interesting. Ah well, to each their own, I suppose.

If anything, I want a DS Lite because my little sister pretty much kept my DS Phat.

I can assure you that the DSi is a huge joke for Nintendo's market.

**** yeah, the original Rhythm Tengoku is one of the best GBA games. Hope it sells 10 million copies like it deserves!

Won't buy DSi. I never intended to do so anyway. I'll probably win at a tournament and get it as a prize, like I did with my DS Lite.

Producing the DSi with a $170 price tag is laughable. Seriously, I'm laughing right now. They just can't get enough money.

Seriously, this is going to bet yet another high-priced Nintendo product that will sell out left and right. They have humanity by the nuts this gen.

Even if the price isn't completely unreasonable.

I forgot, what are the new features for the DSi? I might buy it, but it will probably be when it's marked down a little. Isn't it supposed to have a camera, and have better internet capabilities or something?

Basically it's trying to be a phone. Also, please tell me you don't already have a DS Lite.

I do have a DS Lite. Is it pretty much the same thing? If that is the case, then I'm not buying a DSi for a long time.

Well, without rambling on for ages about every difference:

+ slightly bigger screen
+ thinner
+ sd card slot for extra storage and dsware games coming out
+ two cameras but they're low quality
- lower battery life
- no GBA slot

That's about it. It looks almost identical to the lite, and it's a whole load more expensive. The only time I'd say get one is if you play a DSphat a whole lot, and don't have a lite. Even then I'd just go for a lite.

I wouldn't call it "a whole load" more expensive. $40 difference isn't too bad, just about the same you'd pay for a single DS game.

I'm pretty happy with my DS Lite, and if I were to think about buying a handheld, the PSP would likely get more consideration that the DSi. It may come to justify itself, however. We'll see.

U American really think 170$ (135€) is expensive. Come to Europe and u will see what expensive really means. I mean our DSi price will be 149 British pounds which is same as 170 Euros (DS lite is still 150€) or 212$ (here DS lite is still 190 in dollars). Even ur Wii is something like 250$ (200€) here it's price is 270€ (340$).

Why is Ninty (like everyone else) over pricing everything in Europe as seen in this article:

Man, the SD slot on the DSi is just begging people to find a way to be able to pirate **** on it.

That said, I was considering trading in my Lite for one, but with a $170 price tag that can ***** right off.

nintendo is reDONKulus! is a silly camera with the quality of a VGA cellphone reallly worth that money? Besides, I can't think of a way to impliment a camera into an RPG or RTS game, which is all I play on the DS, so I don't really care. Not to mention that the GBA is one of the best systems ever, why wouldn't you want to have the ability to play gba games?

A 0.2 megapixel camera is actually much worse than what most standard cell phones have these days.

Your currency is dollars? I didn't know that. O.o EDIT #2: Google Says you use the Swedish krona.

According to a news article I read recently, it will be $299.95 in Australia and £149.99 in Europe (don't they mean euros?). April 2, 2009 in Australia; April 3, 2009 in Europe....
